Hourly Pay Range (Minimum - Midpoint - Maximum):

$42.504 - $54.844 - $67.184


The stated pay scale reflects the range that Sharp reasonably expects to pay for this position.  The actual pay rate and pay grade for this position will be dependent on a variety of factors, including an applicant’s years of experience, unique skills and abilities, education, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, other requirements for the position, and employer business practices.



What You Will Do
The Lead Business Development Specialist organizes and assists with all aspects of business development, including: development, implementation, monitoring, updating and ongoing analyzation of the organization's strategic business development plan. To promote and sell Sharp HealthCare and continuum to the public and health care community improving service linkages, maximizing care continuity and satisfaction.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in business, marketing or in a health care related field.
  • 5 Years business, healthcare, marketing or in a health care related field.
  • Must be experienced with customer service, oral presentation, sales, marketing and business development strategies.
  • Proven experience in dealing with high level executives, physicians and business partners.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in business, marketing or in a health care related field.
  • 1 Year Acute Care hospital experience.

Essential Functions
  • Leadership
    In partnership with the department leadership, the leader is responsible for growth of the hospital’s admissions, clinical program and service line development, business planning, physician relations, post-acute strategy and development.
    Manage department staff, including performance reviews, assignment of responsibilities and oversight of work.
    Directs the activities of the department in developing the infrastructure, training and implementation.
    Leads, supports and manages the day-to-day operations and development of the department.
    Lead initiatives that drive long-term growth and develop lines of business that enhance the hospital’s offerings.
  • Internal/External Customer Service
    Assists service lines in developing business cases to substantiate purchases, new programs, and other items requiring financial support with the goal of ensuring a positive return on investment.
    Partner with Hospital leadership team to analyze market trends and identify opportunities/threats.
  • Strategy and Development
    Evaluates market trends and provides feedback to management. Offer recommendations for program/service development and enhancement to ensure market position/share is maintained inclusive of ongoing analysis of referral satisfaction trends. (Summary reports monthly and quarterly to management).
    Develops and implements key territory management systems to monitor referral source patterns and utilization.
    Reports activity by referral source; and appropriately/strategically adjusts plans to ensure business retention and acquisition opportunities are seized and maintained.
    Achieve/exceed stated goals including goals for the number of: a) Patient Connections; b) Office visits c) Lunch and Learns (CEU Presentations).
  • Human Resource Management
    Staffing, staff performance plans, evaluates coverage requirements for handling claims. Completes appropriate Human Resources documents according to SHC policies. Prepares and conducts employee performance appraisals in association with Manager. Provides appropriate coaching, counseling, and staff development in association with Manager.
    Employee performance reviews, coaching, and counseling are prepared with sufficient supporting documentation on a timely basis. Conducts monthly individual feedback.
    Time cards and related payroll and Human Resources documents are processed accurately and timely.
    Staffing schedules are prepared that assure adequate coverage. Recommends and implements corrective staffing action to assure that performance standards are met.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of the San Diego health care marketplace, key providers, influencers and community constituencies.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, oral, written and presentation skills.
