Summary
The Medical Radiation Physicist is a position with three general functions. Under the supervision of the Lead Medical Radiation Physicists, the Medical Radiation Physicist will be responsible for performing clinical Medical Physics, supervising dosimetrists and performing administrative tasks to ensure accurate and safe use of radiation machines and radioactive sources in Radiation Oncology.  Assists with acceptance testing and commissioning of new equipment.  Functions as consultant regarding patient radiation treatment planning; proposing several alternatives and discusses probable procedure with physicians.  Responsible for ensuring that equipment requirements of Radiation Oncology Department are maintained at the highest level and updated as required.  Performs quality control measurements, compares results to baseline values and initiates appropriate corrective action as necessary.  Consults frequently with staff regarding issues relative to radiation safety and radiation protection.
Sharp Chula Vista Barnhart Cancer Center offers a "state of the art" treatment facility.  The technology encompasses an "all Varian" platform: two True Beam accelerators, SRS, SBRT, IGRT, IMRT, Rapid Arc, Respiratory Gating, Brain Lab, ExacTrac, Aria, Eclipse, Varisource, GE Big Bore CT – Simulator and an all paperless and wireless environment.  Our technology is complimented by beautiful and serene gardens, waterfalls, fireplaces and a healing environment that this comprehensive center offers to our employees, patients and family members alike in line with the PlaneTree model. Our professional staff consists of Board Certified professionals including: 2 MD’s, 2 Physicists, 2 CMDs, 2 RN’s, 1 social worker, 5 Radiation Therapists, as well as front office and patient support service staff.
As the leading provider of health care services in the South Bay, Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center is a 449 bed facility that delivers high-quality care designed to meet the needs of the community. Home to the region’s most comprehensive heart program, it also has the area’s only radiation oncology center and certified community hospital cancer program. The hospital has San Diego County’s only comprehensive Bloodless Medicine and Surgery Center, which serves patients who wish to avoid blood transfusions for personal or religious reasons.
Sharp Chula Vista recently more than doubled the size of its Emergency Department and opened the new Douglas and Nancy Barnhart Cancer Center, a unique healing environment with the most advanced medical technology available for cancer treatment.

This position is located at Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center in the Radiation Therapy Department in Chula Vista, CA, San Diego County
 
Hours
Full Time 8-Hour Variable Day Shift
 
Bonus
Relocation Bonus up to $3,000
 
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Masters in Medical Physics, Radiological Physics or a closely related field
  • 1 Year Current radiation oncology outpatient experience
  • Comprehensive knowledge of radiation therapy patient care
  • Advanced knowledge of computer systems, information management and data analysis
  • Critical thinking skills to pro-actively problem solve
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Clear and effective communication skills; both oral and written
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
  • MS ABR/ABMP Board Certification in Radiation Oncology
  • ABR Part 3 Oral Eligible
  • Proven Experience in Special Procedures- Development, Supervision & Treatment Planning- Such as SRS/SBRT/HDR
