Director Perioperative Services-Sharp Coronado Hospital

Summary:

The Director of Perioperative Services has primary responsibilities include providing administrative oversight and direction for the Perioperative Continuum. He/she is accountable for planning, directing, leading and growth of the six diverse departments that make up the perioperative area, which includes the operating room, post anesthesia care unit, surgical procedural area, pre-anesthesia evaluation services, and sterile processing. The Director of Perioperative Services is responsible for assuring the highest quality of patient care and professional services, excellence in service delivery to patients, physicians, and team members, and optimal utilization of the facility. The director will nurture physician relationships, achieve established financial objectives, and identify opportunities for growth.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Three years of progressive leadership and management experience in the perioperative areas is required.
  • Affiliation with professional National Association is required.

  • Knowledge of state, federal, NCQA, TJC compliance guidelines is required.

  • Computer skills including EMR, (such as Cerner) and MS Office required.

  • Demonstrate excellent communication, organization, management and leaderships skills is required.

  • Demonstrate the ability to collaborate with physicians, entity and system projects/work teams is required.

  • Demonstrate the ability to provide high quality customer service to all customers served is required.

  • Five years leadership and management experience, and three years of experience in acute health care environment is strong preferred.

  • Minimum of three years’ operating room experience (Circulating/Scrubbing) is strong preferred.

  • CNOR certification is preferred.

  • Union environment experience is preferred.

  • Lean Six Sigma Training is preferred.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in nursing required.

Master’s degree preferred.

Licensure:

Unencumbered CA Registered Nurse licensure required.

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required.

Six Sigma Green Belt preferred.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Promotes the mission, vision, and values of the organization

  • Determines direction, goals, and objectives of assigned areas and ensures implementation for strategic and operating plans

  • Directs the development of short and long term plans and budgets for assigned areas

  • Develops, recommends and implements organizational policies and objectives.

  • Organize services and systems necessary for the multidisciplinary approach throughout the continuum of care; assume responsibility for the clinical and financial performance of the department

  • Responsible for the ongoing quality/performance improvement processes related to patient care

  • Ensure overall operations management, inclusive of cost management, quality of services delivered, employee and resources management, total care delivery, and contract services

  • Promote and support a collaborative team approach in providing care for all patients

  • Act as a liaison for the unit(s) and provides physicians, families, and ancillary departments with direction and/or assistance as needed

  • Support and interpret policies, procedures, philosophy and objectives of the hospital

  • Facilitate staff analysis and improvement plans for employee satisfaction workgroup

  • Monitor customer satisfaction scores and implements plans to improve them

  • Monitor patient volumes, quality of care, and performance of staff to identify areas for improvement

  • Develop and administers a budget; leads cost efficient and effective operations, creates plan of correction for any operating expenses that deviate from budget

  • Use problem solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships with team members

  • Consistently and positively communicates with staff members, physicians, patients and visitors

  • Effective at working with and managing multidisciplinary teams

     

    Customer Served:

    Executive leadership, medical directors, physicians, directors, managers, peers, professional and clinical staff, patients/family members, public/community constituents

     

    Compensation and Benefits:

    The position provides a very competitive compensation, including opportunity to participate in a management bonus incentive program along with a generous benefit package.
