Responsibilities

Summary
This position is expected to perform a variety of functions and duties in a six-bed congregate living health facility for terminally ill. Functions include cooking and serving breakfast, preparing and serving lunch, general housekeeping duties, laundry, general light equipment maintenance, ordering of medical and non-medical supplies, and performing some clerical functions and duties. 

Sharp Hospice Care is dedicated to providing comprehensive care and compassionate support to individuals facing life-limiting illnesses, along with their families and friends. Services range from relief of physical discomfort to emotional and spiritual support.  Sharp Hospice Care also provides “pre-hospice” home based palliative care consultation for patients with advanced illness such as heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and dementia.

Sharp Hospice Care provides in-home services and also provides the region’s first freestanding hospice homes, Lake View Home in La Mesa and Park View Home in Del Cerro and Bonita View Home which offers end-of-life patients an alternative to nursing-home placement. The homes — staffed 24 hours a day by licensed nurses — offer a comfortable and supportive environment for patients.

Location

 

This position is based in Del Cerro, San Diego County at the Grossmont Hospice, Parkview Home, but will rotate to all 3 of our East County Hospice homes.

 

Hours

 

Per diem; variable 8 hour shifts with weekends as needed - will rotate to all 3 hospice homes

 

Required Skills and Qualifications 

 

 

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Current Food Handler's Card or acquisition within 90 days of hire

  • One year in health care or food preparation

  • Previous work experience in cooking, housekeeping, clerical roles helpful

  • Must be able to perform basic math computations

  • Must be able to read, write and speak effectively

  • Must be able to communicate with fellow employees, supervisor and the public

  • Driver's License

  • Must have own reliable transportation with insurance to transport patient food
