This is a new program for Sharp Grossmont Hospital’s Pharmacy Department, and we are excited to be able to contribute to the growth of future pharmacists.  Students will be expected to commit to 2-3 years of employment.  The Intern will perform obtain medication histories for admitted patients.  Additional responsibilities may include medication counseling for patients discharging from the hospital and possible projects.  They will work under direct supervision of the Pharmacist.  The Intern Pharmacist will assist the Pharmacy Department in providing pharmaceutical services that supports the mission, values and philosophy of Pharmacy Services and Sharp HealthCare.
The Pharmacy Department at Sharp Grossmont Hospital provides innovative pharmaceutical care through progressive clinical services.  We are a decentralized pharmacy services include critical care, emergency medicine, infectious diseases, and transitions of care.  The Pharmacy Department is rapidly expanding their services and will be getting a new pharmacy in 2016.
Sharp Grossmont Hospital is the largest not-for-profit, full-service acute care hospital in the region with 542 beds. The hospital has outstanding programs in heart care, orthopedics, rehabilitation, robotic surgery, mental health, stroke care and women’s health. In addition, the hospital’s Emergency and Critical Care Center is one of the most technologically advanced emergency and intensive care facilities in the nation.  SGR is a certified for Stroke and STEMI. The Emergency Departments serves >100,000 patients annually.
Sharp Grossmont Hospital is nationally recognized as a MAGNET®-designated hospital for patient care and nursing practices. This designation is the “gold standard” for patient care and nursing excellence and is the highest honor awarded by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
This position is located in La Mesa, San Diego County.
Variable shifts, weekends as needed
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Current unencumbered CA Intern Pharmacist license
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited Doctor of Pharmacy program preferred
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Proficiency with basic computer skills
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
  • Some experience in a hospital pharmacy environment
  • Knowledge of pharmacy terminology, trade, generic drug names, and metric system
