Summary

The Lead Clinical Nurse reports to ED Manager; provide leadership and coordination of shift operations in a defined clinical area.

Sharp Grossmont Hospital's Emergency Room department is one of the most technologically advanced of its kind. As the busiest Emergency Department in San Diego, Sharp Grossmont Hospital implemented a new, streamlined process to manage the large volumes of ED patients that are treated. The process, Provider in Triage (PIT), has successfully enhanced patient flow and improved overall patient wait times. In addition to PIT, the ED has implemented a nurse and ER tech program in the ED lobby to enhance the patient’s arrival experience. The patient or visitor is immediately greeted and assessed upon arrival, and immediately directed to the next level of care. This unwavering dedication to quality patient care has earned the ED recognition as a Super Center Emergency Department by the Emergency Department Benchmarking Alliance for treating more than 100,000 patients annually. Sharp Grossmont is among the nation’s 4 percent of hospitals to receive this title. We have also been designated by the county as a STEMI center, due to implementation of new cardiac protocols meeting county and national guidelines for treating acute MI patients. Additionally, we have achieved stroke center status due to our focus on providing expeditious diagnosis and treatment of stroke patients. We have a helipad that receives patients with medical emergencies, such as snake bites, heat stroke, and heart attacks, from our rural back-country areas. Currently, we run 43 acute care beds 24 hours a day, plus 21 minor care and observation beds that are open during high volume hours. Opportunities for growth include MICN, advanced clinician, clinical lead and our new ICU/ED rotation.

Sharp Grossmont Hospital is the largest not-for-profit, full-service acute care hospital in the region with 542 beds. The hospital has outstanding programs in heart care, orthopedics, rehabilitation, robotic surgery, mental health, stroke care and women’s health. In addition, the hospital’s Emergency and Critical Care Center is one of the most technologically advanced emergency and intensive care facilities in the nation.

Sharp Grossmont Hospital is nationally recognized as a MAGNET®-designated hospital for patient care and nursing practices. This designation is the “gold standard” for patient care and nursing excellence and is the highest honor awarded by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
