Manager Quality and Performance Improvement, Hospice Administration

Directs hospice wide performance improvement activities, quality and infection control programs. Implements and oversees the Electronic Health Record, including financial and clinical applications.  Acts as the regulatory and compliance expert and is the system wide liaison with the compliance department. Participates in the development of the annual strategic plan and annual entity performance targets.  Collaborates with hospice leadership team to assess, measure and report meaningful data such as patient/family satisfaction tools, internal and external benchmarking metrics.  Stays abreast of federal regulations and participates in systems/process changes as required to achieve and maintain compliance.  Oversees the performance improvement plan and program for the hospice and hospice homes and is the liaison between the system, hospital and hospice.  Chairs the Hospice Quality Council.

Manages assigned operational areas and promotes staff accountability and empowerment through formal and informal mechanisms. Assures the operational efficiency and quality of services. Participates in budget development and agency productivity.

Sharp Hospice Care is dedicated to providing comprehensive care and compassionate support to individuals facing life-limiting illnesses, along with their families and friends. Services range from relief of physical discomfort to emotional and spiritual support. Sharp Hospice Care also provides home based palliative care consultation for patients with advanced illness such as heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and dementia. Sharp Hospice Care is part of Sharp Grossmont Hospital, nationally recognized as a MAGNET®-designated hospital for patient care and nursing practices.

Sharp Hospice Care provides in-home services and also provides the region’s first freestanding hospice homes, LakeView Home in La Mesa, ParkView Home in Del Cerro and BonitaView Home in Bonita which offer end-of-life patients an alternative to nursing home placement. The homes – staffed 24 hours a day by licensed nurses – provide a comfortable and supportive environment for our patients and their families.

This position is located in La Mesa, CA; requires travel within San Diego County






8 hour shift, Full-time, 8:00am - 4:30pm, working no weekends, rotating schedule of On-Call required




Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Prior experience in Quality Improvement/Utilization Management required
  • Knowledge of statistical principals
  • Understanding and application of theoretical and scientific process for continuous quality improvement
  • Strong computer software and computer network skills
  • Maintains confidentiality of all quality assessment department information
  • Upholds California Evidence Code 1157


Preferred Skills and Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in relevant field
  • Current unencumbered CA RN license
  • Prior experience in managerial or leadership position
  • Hospice experience
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards in related area
