What You Will Do
Manager Vascular/Noninvasive Cardiology plans, directs, and coordinates the development and implementation of programs and services consistent with the mission of Sharp Healthcare. Responsible for the strategic planning, business development and growth, and quality improvement plans for the endovascular program. Collaborates regularly with other hospital Cardiac or Vascular Program Managers and/or Senior Cardiac or Vascular Specialists to ensure continued system focus. Is a key member of the system cardiovascular council responsible for strategic planning, implementation and fiscal oversight of the program. Evaluates and coordinates clinical research studies for the specialty service lines in conjunction with medical doctors. Coordinates and supports physicians, administration and management in the integration of financial, clinical and quality issues for the specialty service line to achieve high quality service in an efficient and economic manner. Develops collaborative relationships with key physicians, medical doctors, medical groups, and the community to ensure a continuum focus and enhance the image of Grossmont Hospital and Sharp healthcare. Provides leadership in forecasting future trends for service lines. Accountable for coordinating the ongoing development and productivity of a work unit or units and for maintaining the quality of care within that work unit and or programs. Assists the Director with operational planning and provides daily work direction to achieve unit level of care and organizational objectives. Contributes to budget development and maintains responsibility for achieving budgetary objectives.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or Health-Related field.
  • 5 years Management, service line or program experience.
  • 2 years Management experience.
  • Experience and the ability to manage multiple groups, interact productively with varying levels of personnel and staff; provide program direction and development, excellent communication and management skills.
  • AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) - American Heart Association -REQUIRED
  • California Registered Nurse (RN) - CA Board of Registered Nursing -REQUIRED

  • Master's Degree In healthcare or business.


Essential Functions

  • Supervises staff; including hiring, coaching and counseling, and assuring performance appraisals are completed. Assures that productivity and quality are tracked and maintained. Assures quality care and compliance with internal standards and regulatory and accreditation bodies. Collaborates with marketing and community care departments regarding the development, marketing, implementation and evaluation of programs as appropriate. Assumes 24-hour responsibility and accountability for unit/units supervised. Executes priorities to ensure implementation of operation plan within the work unit or units. Promotes staff accountability and empowerment through formal and informal mechanisms. Customer serviced: Patients, physicians, peers, staff, consumers, coworker, directors, and other senior administrators.
  • Education/Reports
    Ensures that staff appropriately assesses the completion of all charts with compliance to metrics being measured.
    Identifies education needs of both staff and physicians and responds to needs.
    Develops and distributes data outcomes reports, develops action plans and reports out to appropriate leadership and medical staff committees.
  • Staff Management and development
    Ability to communicate clearly and effectively and to work collaboratively with multiple others of diverse cultures, education background, experience, etc. Demonstrated knowledge of team building skills and principles of self -managed work teams.
    Oversees cardiac and vascular staff and ensures their achievement of clinical outcome goals, process improvements, and patient care initiatives, productivity metrics
    Counsels and evaluates staff members on their performance as well as rewards and recognition to maintain good performance.
    Interviews and makes decision for hiring, disciplining, and terminating personnel based specific technical and psychosocial competencies in the area.
    Ensures that personnel file supports any actions required.
    Ensures that staff development plan of action that meets education needs of staff and physician and evaluates organizational progress toward benchmark.
  • System Integration/Communication and Leadership
    Promotes system focus in quality monitoring, internal and external benchmarking.
    Collaborates on a routine basis with specialty service line providers at all Sharp Healthcare facilities.
    Facilitates information sharing and project coordination where appropriate between facilities.
    In collaboration with other hospital vice presidents, Director of Cardiovascular Services and other cardiac program managers develops and promotes overall vision of specialty services for Sharp Healthcare.
    Develops collaborative relationships with cardiac and vascular system program staff, other departments, hospitals, healthcare committees, physicians, and other agencies to facilitate and support quality services and financial viability at Sharp Healthcare.
    Establishes and maintains a communication system with individuals/agencies providing or supporting service line and program development.
    Uses communication strategies with individuals and groups that result in achievement of intended outcomes.
    Facilitates the integration of appropriate personnel into high performing teams.
    Communicate clearly and effectively with clinical managers and medical directors in provision of education to nursing staff and noncompliant physicians.
  • Departmental Quality Plan
    Implements disease management teams at the hospital using clinical, quality and cost data to drive rapid cycle improvements in the endovascular, vascular, and cardiac populations.
    Guides and assists in the development of quality indicators and monitors/analyzes achievement of benchmark and best practice goals.
    Assures awareness of local, state, and national standards that affect program/service line and/or departments.
    Collaborates with healthcare team to implement action plan to enhance quality outcomes across the continuum of care.
    Identifies and confronts issues which affect quality of service; collaborates with physicians, administration, medical groups, and staff to resolve these issues.
    Manages clinical specialists’ performance (cardiac and vascular) in achieving patient care and process outcomes.
    Develops department quality plan /participates in hospital performance improvement efforts. Ensures department preparation for regulatory agencies.
  • Budget
    Development of operational budgets with in collaboration with Director of Heart and Vascular Services and vice presidents, based on current and future needs, to enhance development of service line.
    Performs variance analysis on quality and financial outcomes.
    Identifies and implements cost efficient strategies within the service lines/program.
    Works closely with service line business development arm to achieve competitive acquisition costs of high-cost items for the hospital and the system.
    Evaluates productivity, labor distribution and department expense reports, and reports variances and causes to director.
  • Business and Program Development
    Develops/manages the strategic/tactical plan and annual business plan for service lines that integrate with organizational and system wide service line goals.
    Identifies ideas and insights into clinical improvements to generate new business or improved services for service lines.
    Participates/facilitates in the development of Sharp HealthCare service line continuum, ensuring the incorporation of quality and financial outcome indicators.
    Develops financial analysis of new programs and services to ensure financial viability and fiscal impacts.
    Incorporates knowledge of external factors, regulations and healthcare policies, which affect reimbursement for services.
    Maintains ongoing analysis of service line performance and monitors trends and opportunities. Initiates and recommends service and quality improvements to meet changing market needs.
    Collaborates with the system and hospital vice presidents and directors to provide strategic planning and implementation of new programs and services.
    Generates ideas and insights into marketing opportunities for service lines.
    Collaborates with marketing to promote new programs and services.
  • Service Line Committees
    Active participant in applicable Supervisory Committees.
    Guides and mentor staff in the presentation of cardiac and vascular data.
    Active participant in Clinical Effectiveness meetings and/or cardiovascular leadership meetings, physician meetings or other pertinent meetings.
  • Physician Satisfaction
    Achieve entity and system goals on overall physician satisfaction score in alignment with system and entity goals.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to produce and utilize clinical, quality and financial data for project tracking and outcomes achievement. Flexibility to deal and manage change.
  • Technical knowledge of cardiology, cardiac surgery and vascular services.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of computer systems, information management and data analysis.
  • Understands and is able to articulate the principles of disease management and case management models.
