The Nursing Assistant - NA assists the unit in maintaining the ‘get with the guidelines’ indicators for stroke. Includes, but is not limited to proper documentation of DVT prophylaxis. Maintains stroke tools in patient rooms, helps maintain stroke information wall. Perform patient care activities, treatments, and services. Adhere to aseptic technique and universal precautions. Considers the age, cultural, psychosocial and physical needs of patients when providing care. Prepares patient room/gurneys/chair prior to admission/visit. Orients patient/family to the facility/room. Ensures documentation and proper disposition of patient belongings/valuables. Assists with positioning, ambulation, transporting, transferring and/or discharging of patients. Answers patient call lights and/or responds to patient requests for assistance per department standard. Provides explanation to patient/family prior to administering care and answers questions.
5-East is a 37-bed Neuro/Stroke Progressive Care Unit that focuses on the neurological management of patients. Sharp Grossmont Hospital is a Joint Commission-certified Primary Stroke Center and is one of the only hospitals in the San Diego-area with a specific unit dedicated to stroke care. 5-East provides its staff with the opportunity to work with Progressive Care/telemetry level of care and gain specialized skills in acute stroke care. This position is located in La Mesa, San Diego County
12-hour night shift: 7:00pm-7:30am
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Ability to perform all baseline resident / patient care skills under guidance of Licensed Nurse
- Knowledge of basic patient/resident care skills
- Current BLS certification for Healthcare Providers
- Effective interpersonal skills
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
- One-year recent experience in geriatric setting OR one-year recent experience in an acute care hospital
- Comparable to certified nursing assistant course
