Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Current, unencumbered California RN license
  • Current BLS certification for Healthcare Provider
  • BSN degree and/or enrolled in a Master’s Program with relevance to nursing practice
  • Two years or more of recent pertinent clinical experience
  • Knowledge of and experience with online computer systems (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)
  • Effective interpersonal skills: verbal, written and presentation skills
  • Leadership skills
  • Ability to demonstrate complex problem solving and the use of critical thinking skills
 
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
  • Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE)

Summary
This part-time Diabetes Nursing Specialist II position is with the Diabetes Service Line at Sharp Grossmont Hospital.  The Diabetes Nursing Specialist II demonstrates advanced competencies in all areas of unit skills, serves as a role model for professional behavior through participation in committees and assumes responsibility of the resource/educator role.     Responsibilities include provision of expert direct patient education, and staff development and education. The Nursing Specialist II demonstrates expert nursing principles that directly result in improved outcomes as assessed by patients, family, physicians and staff and mentors others to improve clinical practice.  The Nursing Specialist II recognizes inconsistencies in patient care and manages potential complications and applies knowledge, expertise and leadership to achieve outcomes for unit, department, hospital, organization and community.   The position includes participation in the process of evidence-based research utilization and serving as a role model for professional behavior through participation in committees.
The Diabetes Service Line at Sharp Grossmont Hospital is staffed by a Diabetes Nurse Educator and Diabetes Nursing Specialists.  The Service Line actively collaborates with multi-disciplinary teams including Nursing Leadership, Pharmacy, Nutrition Services, and Physicians at Sharp Grossmont Hospital and across Sharp Healthcare System.  The Diabetes Service Line at Sharp Grossmont Hospital participates in the Society of Hospital Medicine for Glycemic Control project and is actively involved within Sharp HealthCare in several Glycemic Management initiatives.
