8-hour variable day shift, typically 7:30 am - 4:00 pm, but may vary depending on department needs. Weekends as needed
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Current, unencumbered California RN license
- Current BLS certification for Healthcare Provider
- Master's degree, but may consider BSN degree if currently enrolled in Master’s program
- Two years or more of recent pertinent clinical experience
- Knowledge of and experience with online computer systems (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)
- Effective interpersonal skills: verbal, written and presentation skills
- Leadership skills
- Ability to demonstrate complex problem solving and the use of critical thinking skills

This Nursing Specialist II position is with the Surgery Service department at Sharp Grossmont Hospital. The Nursing Specialist II demonstrates advanced competencies in all areas of unit skills, serves as a role model for professional behavior through participation in committees and assumes responsibility of the resource/educator role. The Nursing Specialist II will also assume the responsibilities of charge nurse and preceptor for new graduates and new orientees to the unit and will demonstrate leadership skills to positively influence the practice of others. Responsibilities include providing expert direct patient care and integrating care with the multi-disciplinary team to facilitate patient access to needed resources from pre-admission to discharge. The Nursing Specialist II demonstrates expert nursing principles that directly result in improved outcomes as assessed by patients, family, physicians and staff and mentors others to improve clinical practice. The Nursing Specialist II recognizes inconsistencies in patient care and manages potential complications and applies knowledge, expertise and leadership to achieve outcomes for unit, department, hospital, organization and community. The position includes participation in the process of evidence-based research utilization and serving as a role model for professional behavior through participation in committees.
The Surgery service at Sharp Grossmont Hospital has 12-OR suites and performs all inpatient surgical specialties including Open Heart and DaVinci Robotic Surgery.
