The pharmacists are decentralized utilizing wireless telephones and dedicated computer workstations on the Nursing units. Staff are encouraged to provide pharmacotherapy management utilizing a network-based medication intervention monitoring program, respond to medical emergencies (e.g. Code Blue), and participate in medication utilization evaluations (MUE’s). The Pharmacists work with the full-time Safe Medication Practice Pharmacist in evaluating adverse drug events (ADE’s) and medication safety initiatives.
Furthermore, Sharp Grossmont has a pharmacy student program, including rotations in general Hospital Practice, Pharmacokinetics, and Infectious Disease/Antimicrobial, providing an opportunity for pharmacy school affiliation. Pharmacy staff handles and distribute investigation medications. The Pharmacy has implemented Pyxis Profile Medstations that are specifically designed to support patient care in each Nursing area.
