Responsibilities

Summary

The Recreation Specialist will work on all inpatient psychiatric units, which includes open and locked unit.  The Intensive Treatment Program (ITP) is a 14 bed locked 24-hour care unit and part of 46 beds Inpatient Psychiatric Unit.  This unit is designed for adults who are gravely disabled or so impaired in their psychological functioning as to constitute a danger to themselves or others.  Highly focused efforts are provided by the Multidisciplinary Team to assess and stabilize persons in a safe, caring and therapeutic environment. Sharp Grossmont Hospital has received the prestigious Magnet Designation for nursing excellence, a distinction granted by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, a subsidiary of the American Nurses Association.

Position is in a 46 bed in-patient psychiatric facility, which includes a 14 bed closed unit,12 bed medical psychiatric unit, 22 bed adult psychiatric unit.

Location

This position is located in La Mesa, CA, San Diego County

 
Hours
8 hour shifts; Per Diem position to work Variable Shifts; every other weekend
 
Required Skills and Qualifications
 
  • Successful completion of an accredited Recreation Therapy Program with Bachelors of Art/Science degree or equivalent academic credentials
  • Current BLS for HealthCare Providers by the American Heart Association
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills; skills in group facilitation
 
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
 
  • Certification as Therapeutic Recreation Specialist
  • Professional experience in an acute inpatient psychiatric treatment setting
