This position is located in La Mesa, San Diego County
8-hour variable day shift, primarily 8:30 am - 5:00 pm, but depends on physician meeting schedule; no weekends
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in a health-related field
- Minimum of three (3) years clinical experience in acute care setting
- Knowledge of TJC, DHS, IMQ regulations, laws and requirements imposed on healthcare organizations
- Intermediate computer skills including working knowledge of PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and clinical information systems such as Cerner
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
- Leadership experience
- California RN license
- Master’s Degree
- Risk reduction/management experience
- Knowledge of general principles of quality improvement, infection control, safety, corporate compliance
- Previous case review and experience in performance improvement (PI)
The Sr. Specialist - PI Peer Review Specialist serves as quality department representative on medical staff peer review committees working collaboratively with physician leaders to facilitate accurate, appropriate and timely processing of peer review cases. Maintains efficient work processes to provide timely peer review results to the organization. Facilitates provider-specific profiles to be utilized for ongoing professional practice evaluation and re-credentialing of healthcare providers. Conducts proactive risk assessment of high-risk processes and facilitates development of action plans and implementation strategies to prevent risk. Works with the Director of Quality Improvement & Physician Services and other organizational leaders to create and facilitate an education/communication action plan related to pro-active risk reduction through performance improvement initiatives. The peer review specialist assists in review and identification of any sentinel events and near misses identified through proactive risk assessments or quality variance reporting and brings them forward for review by the administrative and sentinel event review team.
The Quality and Patient Safety Department is a busy, dynamic department that drives performance improvement, physician peer review and patient safety activities.
