Responsibilities

Summary
Under the direction of the Manager, responsible for day-day activities of the Medical Library, providing document delivery service, answering reference questions, and maintaining books, serials, audiovisuals, and catalog library materials in accordance with National Library of Medicine's Classification System.
The Sharp libraries are committed to providing authoritative and up to date services to the professionals, administrators, managers and support staff of all the Sharp HealthCare facilities.  There are three medical libraries, two consumer health libraries, one Health Shoppe and for library projects see our UPC.
Sharp physicians and staff may check out books/videos for four weeks. Sharp MB and OPP have a consumer library where the public may check out books and videos for four weeks. Each library has its own homepage with information on hours, telephone numbers, location and staff.
Location:  This position is located in Kearny Mesa of San Diego County at Sharp Memorial Hospital.
 
Hours:  8 hour shifts with start time ( 9:30-6pm)
 
Required Skills and Qualifications:
 
  • Ability to help maintain the online card catalog within library practices and in accordance with the National Library of Medicine's subject headings, and the Cutter-Sanborn three-figure author tables National Library of Medicine's Classification System.
  • Assists in the training and supervision of the volunteers and assign tasks each day.
  • Responsible for book and journal inventories at SMH, MB and CV libraries including shelving, check-in, and statistics.
  • Knowledgeable of the daily operations, knowing the library collection, being able to answer reference questions using library collection, databases, websites, etc, and filing materials properly.
  • Responsible for the compiling and maintaining records of daily and yearly usage data.
  • Ability of communicate effectively with all levels of patrons.
  • Skills in processing article requests quickly internally and externally. (receiving, tracking, billing, etc)
  • Skills in typing, computers, and office equipment. 

  

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
 
  • Minimum A.A. degree, B.A./B.S. preferred, or equivalent library experience.
  • Ability to use EOS, Docline, PubMed, and OCLC, & Microsoft Office computer software
