What You Will Do
Provides consultation, education, and guidance to employees regarding system wide benefit programs. Participates in and supports the on-going administration and compliance of Sharp's Flexible Spending Account (FSA) plan, Financial Wellness programs, Sharp's Employee Discount and Perks program and COBRA through specific responsibilities for managing the third party administrator relationships, resolving participant questions and complaints, billing, and enrollment data integrity.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Human Resources, or related field.
  • 5 Years experience as a benefits professional in a large, complex organization.
  • Experience in working with all levels of employees including executives.
  • Experience in making technical presentations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Healthcare experience.

Essential Functions

  • Act as a resource
    Assures the operational efficiency and quality of services of assigned area and provides technical guidance, as required.
    Maintains a current knowledge of all Sharp HealthCare benefit plans and programs.
    Maintains an awareness of benefit plan changes, laws, regulations, and information.
    Serves as technical resource to Human Resources, employees and management on benefits plans, policies, regulations, and changes.
    Answers employee questions and provides assistance, as needed.
    Provides guidance on regulatory issues, changes and requirements, as needed.
  • COBRA and FSA Administration

    Serves as primary contact for FSA program administration.
    Serves as primary contact in the administration of COBRA through third party administrator (TPA).
    Maintains accountability for benefits available to employees covered under FSA.
    Ensures accuracy of records and reports relating to all FSA accounts.
    Maintains working knowledge of Section 125 FSA, COBRA, and HIPAA regulations.
    Answers phone calls and questions from employees regarding FSA/COBRA benefits and procedures.
    Serves as a resource to employees, HR and Benefits departments on FSA and COBRA regulations and procedures.
  • Health and Welfare Plan Administration
    Assists in the administration of the Health and Welfare benefit programs.
    Answers employee questions regarding all Health & Welfare benefits.
    Resolves enrollment discrepancies with Sharp Health Plan, MetLife, employees, and HR.
    Enrolls employees and/or dependents when necessary to ensure coverage.
    Resolves medical and dental customer service issues, as needed. Ensures that eligibility status is updated in Lawson system.
    Works with HRIS to obtain necessary reports to generate notifications and confirm eligibility.
    Assists with and provides support for all benefit plan enrollment activities.
  • Employee Discount Program
    Serves as primary contact for the administration of the Sharp Employee Discount and Perks Program.
    Responsible for the maintenance of the Sharp Employee Discount Program Policy #04108.
    Answers phone calls and questions from employees regarding Sharp Employee Discount and Perks Program benefits and procedures.
    Serves as a resource to employees, HR and Benefits departments on Sharp Employee Discount and Perks Program policies and procedures.
  • Dependent eligibility
    Prepares and sends notification letters by mail to dependents who turn age 26 and are no longer eligible to be covered under employee benefits.
  • Employee Communication
    Serves as a backup to create and distribute employee communications from the Benefits Department.
  • Benefits Education
    Provides education and training on all benefit programs for employees and management.
    Serves as a backup in coordinating and conducting the benefit plan presentation for weekly new hire orientation and provides training on same for employees and management, as requested.
    Participates in the presentation of the bi-weekly benefit plan sessions offered to all staff.
    Updates benefits new employee orientation (NEO) presentation, handouts and enrollment packets as needed to ensure accuracy and timeliness of information.
    Monitors and ensures available inventory of all materials.
  • Financial Wellness Education
    Supports Financial Wellness Program including maintenance of workshop calendar, room scheduling, and monthly updates and email notifications.
    Distributes all communication relating to Financial Wellness Education activities.
    Assists with and provides support for all Financial Wellness Education activities.
    Provides support in managing Financial Wellness vendor relationships.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of benefit plans, legal compliance and reporting requirements.
  • Interpersonal and communications skills sufficient to clearly present technical data to large groups of people.
  • Ability to analyze complex data and to prepare clear, concise reports.
  • Ability to coordinate benefits projects with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of employees and management to influence decisions in a manner that is viewed as helpful and positive.
