The Certified Phlebotomy Technician will work closely with physician and nursing staff in providing excellent patient care. Performing phlebotomy of patients with different age population in a safe and quality manner; data and specimen processing; support the Sharp Experience and give excellent customer service. Work in a team environment and also be able to work independently with minimal supervision. Provides the technical knowledge, expertise and judgment required to support the Sharp HealthCare (SHC) mission and scope of lab outreach supply chain services. Performs new assigned tasks within acceptable training time intervals; meets department turnaround time goals. Demonstrates competency and efficient use of software applications and equipment. Checks inventory expiration dates and demonstrates ability to evaluate supply inventory to prevent shortages. Completes daily position tasks within expected timeframes to meet Quality Assurance indicator goal expectations. Identifies errors and follows-through with investigation, correction, documentation as directed by lab leadership.

Sharp System Services have campuses located in the communities of Kearny Mesa and Serra Mesa and consist of the Spectrum location, the Ruffin Road location and Sharp Operations Center (SOC). These offices provide the centralized integrated system support services to the operating entities within the system. These services include: Strategic Planning, Business Development, Information Technology, Compliance, Internal Audit, Legal, Risk Management and Insurance, Contracts, Human Resources, Facilities Management and Development, Clinical Effectiveness, Finance, Nursing, Systems Supply Chain Services, Marketing and Communications, The Sharp Experience and Sharp University.
Variable assignments to all acute care hospital laboratories and outreach patient service centers (PSC), San Diego County
4-hour to 8-hour variable shifts; including every other weekend
This is a Per Diem position
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Current California Certified Phlebotomy Technician - CPT I or CPT II
- Current Basic Life support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers issued by the American Heart Association
- Excellent direct customer service, communication and critical thinking skills
- Computer skills, data entry proficiency
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Six months recent Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) experience
- Specimen handling and transporting experience
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
