Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Masters or doctoral prepared RN
  • Current unencumbered California Registered Nurse licensure
  • Certification as Clinical Nurse Specialist by California Board of Registered Nurse Nursing
  • Current BLS certification for Healthcare Providers
  • Current ACLS certification
  • Current NRP certification
  • Three years recent RN experience in area of specialty (acute care Women’s Health, OB-GYN, Perioperative services, ICU, Adult-Health and/or Med/Surg)
  • Clinical expert in theory and/or research based nursing practice within a specialty area
 
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
  • Recent CNS experience in one or more of the following areas: Women’s Health/OB-GYN, Perioperative services, ICU, Adult Health, Medical/Surgical

 


Summary
This is a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) position at the Women’s Acute Care Unit (WACU) and Women’s Post Anesthesia Unit (PACU) at Sharp Mary Birch Hospital for Women & Newborns.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:  applying expertise in evidence-based nursing practice within the Perianesthesia areas, functioning as a clinical resource, educator and consultant and contributing to resource management, leadership, research and professional development for the unit and hospital.  The CNS will collaborate with the Director and unit leadership to ensure implementation of department operational goals and those of the hospital, including Baby Friendly certification, COEMIG, Magnet and Planetree designations.  Clients include patient/family, nursing staff, physicians and the Sharp HealthCare organization.
The Clinical Nurse Specialist is an advanced practice nurse who will provide leadership to promote excellence in nursing practice and patient outcomes.  The CNS is a clinical expert in theory and/or research based nursing practice within the perinatal specialty area.  The CNS will function in the following roles: leader, consultant, mentor, and change agent within three spheres of influence: patient/client, nurses/nursing practice, and organization/system.  The CNS recommends and sets the standard for professional nursing practice, establishes appropriate patient care measures and evaluates outcomes.
The Perianesthesia group includes the Women’s Acute Care Unit (WACU) and Women’s Post Anesthesia Unit (PACU).  The Women’s Recovery Room is a 13 bed unit and 3 bed nursery to provide recovery services post-surgery for the mother and newborn.  Sharp Mary Birch for Women and Newborns provides a full range of medical and surgical services including robotic gynecologic surgery and oncology.  In 2013, Sharp Mary Birch Hospital for Women & Newborns received the Center of Excellence for Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery (COEMIG designation in recognition of their superior patient care.
