Summary
The Clinical Psychologist evaluates plans, directs and administers psychology services. Assists patients in reaching their maximum performance and level of functioning. Participates in operational aspects of the department and works closely with the interdisciplinary treatment team.

The Psychology Department at Sharp Mesa Vista hospital plays a central role in inpatient and intensive outpatient programs serving a broad range of clinical populations. The department currently consists of 6 regular and 2 per diem psychologists as well as 8 doctoral interns and 20 practicum trainees. We partner regularly with psychologists, masters-level therapists, and other disciplines in our many outpatient programs to ensure continuity of care. The discipline of psychology is highly respected at Mesa Vista. Many leadership roles in the hospital are occupied by psychologists. Psychologists are relied upon by physicians, nurses, social workers, and other members of the interprofessional team – informing case conceptualization, treatment and discharge planning. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and other forms of CBT, Trauma Informed Care, Cultural Competence models, and the Recovery model are integrated into all our units and programs.  In addition to providing direct clinical service to patients, Psychologists are involving in program development and evaluation as well as staff training. Psychologists also provide supervision and training for psychology practicum students, doctoral interns, and postdoctoral fellows. The department has been the home of an APA-accredited doctoral internship since 1998.

As the largest behavioral health care provider in San Diego with 158 beds, Sharp Mesa Vista Hospital provides a full range of programs to people of all ages including children, adolescents, adults and seniors challenged by depression, substance abuse or serious mental illness. The hospital’s robust Clinical Research Program has conducted more than 300 clinical trials of investigational medications since its inception in 1995, providing new options and hope for people with mental illness.

Location
This position is located in Serra Mesa, San Diego County; Primary assignment is the inpatient Senior Behavioral Unit.

Hours
Part-Time (.8) benefitted Position. 8-hour day shift with variable start times between 7:00 am - 9:00 am, as appropriate to meet unit/department needs

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • PsyD, PhD from an APA accredited doctoral program in psychology
  • Current California Psychologist licensure
  • Current BLS certification for Healthcare Providers issued by the American Heart Association
  • Three years recent clinical experience
  • One year of experience in an inpatient psychiatric treatment setting
  • Experience in program development/evaluation
  • Demonstrated competence in group, individual, and family therapy
  • Good communication skills with a focus on quality patient care
  • Expertise in CBT
  • Competence in ACT or a strong commitment to develop competence

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

  • Completion of an APA accredited doctoral Internship in Clinical Psychology strongly preferred
  • Completion of a postdoctoral fellowship in a relevant specialty area such as geropsychology, severe mental illness, psychosocial rehabilitation, cognitive behavior therapy
  • Advanced specialty training and/or experience with geriatric mental health
  • One year of experience training/supervising doctoral students/interns
  • Strong commitment to providing culturally competent care, considering all aspects of individual and cultural diversity
  • Strong commitment to the Recovery Model, Trauma Informed Care and Person Centered Care
  • Competence in brief psychological assessment and interprofessional consultation appropriate to a psychiatric, geriatric inpatient unit
