Responsibilities

Summary
Will include interacting with patients to perform dietary screenings; reviewing and charting in electronic medical records; collecting menus from patients; obtaining food preferences; correcting menus according to special diets and food allergies; use computer program to input menu selections according to diet; work closely with Registered Dietitians and food service staff.
The main function of The Food and Nutrition Services department is to serve meals to patients, visitors, staff, and patients at satellite facilities.  Sharp Mesa Vista is a152-bed acute psychiatric hospital.  The Food and Nutrition Services Department has approximately 30 employees. We are looking for committed and reliable individuals to join the Nutrition Services Team.
 As the largest behavioral health care provider in San Diego with 149 beds, Sharp Mesa Vista Hospital provides a full range of programs to people of all ages including children, adolescents, adults and seniors challenged by depression, substance abuse or serious mental illness. The hospital’s robust Clinical Research Program has conducted more than 250 clinical trials of investigational medications since its inception in 1963, providing new options and hope for people with mental illness.
Sharp Mesa Vista provides inpatient care and offer outpatient programs throughout the community.

 

Location
This position is located in Serra Mesa, San Diego County at Sharp Mesa Vista Hospital
 
Hours:  Per Diem; 730 am - 4pm with weekends as needed.
 
 
Required Skills and Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition & Dietetics or equivalent.
  • One year experience in a Healthcare Nutritional role.

  • Strong working knowledge of special diets in order to write therapeutic patient menus under the supervision of the Registered Clinical Dietitian.

  • Ability to prioritize and organize work assignments effectively so expectations are met for productivity and time management.

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills – verbal and written.

  • Demonstrates competency using the computer and applicable software to meet department needs.

  • Skilled in working with mental health patients.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications
  • Diet Technician, Registered (DTR)
  • Knowledge of HACCP
