Director, Compensation and Benefits

Summary:

The Director, Compensation and Benefits develops strategic initiatives and provides direction for the design, development, management, and implementation of system wide compensation and benefits programs in in line with the organization’s business goals and objectives. Ensures that benefit plans and programs are in compliance with current regulations and competitive with relevant markets.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Ten (10) or more years of experience in compensation and benefits management in a large, complex organization.
  • Experience working in health care and in particular, an integrated health care system is strongly preferred.

  • Experience in a leadership role with responsibility for coaching, motivating, and inspiring a team to deliver exceptional results, develop knowledge and skills, and seek challenges and opportunities.

  • Demonstrated ability of establishing and maintaining partnerships with company executives, management and key stakeholders

  • Education:

    • Bachelor's degree in business, human resources, or related field.

    • Master’s degree (MBA or other) strongly preferred.

    • Certification:

      Anyone of the following certifications is preferred:

      • CCP – Certified Compensation Professional

      • CBP – Certified Benefits Professional

      • CEBS – Certified Employee Benefits Specialist

Key Responsibilities:

 

Compensation Program Development and Delivery

  • Develops and directs the execution and delivery of compensation policy, programs, and reward/recognition strategies that facilitate employee engagement and retention, reward and recognize employee performance, and motivate achievement of exceptional results.

  • Consults with management to develop program design methodologies for base and incentive compensation, job description, job evaluation, market pricing, titling criteria, and performance management.

     

    Job Description Management System

  • Determines, develops, and directs initiatives for the administration of Sharp HealthCare’s job descriptions for use in job evaluation, market pricing, recruitment, applicant tracking, new hire training, performance evaluation, career development planning, and succession planning. 

  • Ensures the development, implementation, and maintenance of job description management software that allows for the creation, tracking, reporting, approving, and storing of job descriptions, importing and exporting of data via flat file integration, the development and maintenance of a job description library with standardized templates and profiles within job families, a comparison/evaluation tool to assist in the review of position competencies, licensure, and physical requirements of similar jobs.

  • The capability to interface with 3rd party systems for performance management and applicant tracking, with scheduled integrations with Sharp HealthCare’s HRIS/Payroll system.

     

    Market Pricing and Job Evaluation

  • Determines, develops, and directs initiatives for the market pricing, evaluation, grading, titling, and leveling of positions across the system to ensure fair and equitable pay aligned with relevant labor markets.

  • Consults with management to develop and maintain tiling criteria, hierarchical role descriptors, span of control guidelines, and leveling decision rules. 

     

    Performance Management System

  • Determines, develops, and directs initiatives for Sharp’s performance management system to tie individual performance to the mission, vision, and values of the organization through top-down goal-setting, clear communication of performance expectations, constructive ongoing feedback, and goal measurement. 

     

    Benefits Program Development and Delivery

  • Develops and directs the execution and delivery of benefits plans, programs, and initiatives that enhance the well-being of Sharp employees and their family members, recognize dedicated service, and provide opportunities to build retirement income.

     

     Health and Welfare Plan Administration

  • Determines, develops, and directs initiatives for the administration of Sharp-sponsored health and welfare benefits plans including medical, dental, group life and AD&D, long term disability, personal accident, and critical illness insurance, group legal, group voluntary benefits, paid leave, and leave of absence programs.

     

    Retirement Plan Administration

  • Determines, develops, and directs initiatives for the administration of Sharp-sponsored retirement and savings plans including defined benefit, defined contribution, 401(a), 403(b), 401(k), 457(b), prior-2009 403(b), and 529 college savings plans.

     

    Compliance and Reporting

  • Ensures that all compensation and benefits programs comply with applicable legislation and government regulations at the local, state, and federal levels. 

     

    Information Exchange and Data Integrity

  • Participates in the evaluation, selection, testing, and implementation of HRIS/Payroll systems and service providers, consistent with changing business requirements and needs.

     

    Communications

  • Determines and directs initiatives for the communication of compensation and benefits programs to employees, family members, plan participants, and retirees.

     

    Education and Training

  • Oversees the development and delivery of compensation and benefits education and training programs for managers, supervisors, entity human resources, and employees.

     

    Compensation and Benefits:

    The position provides a very competitive compensation, including opportunity to participate in a management bonus incentive program along with a generous benefit package.

     

    Physical Requirements:

     

  • Ability to sit at desk approximately 6-8 hours per day. 

  • Ability to work at a computer 4-6 hours per day.
