The stated pay scale reflects the range that Sharp reasonably expects to pay for this position.  The actual pay rate and pay grade for this position will be dependent on a variety of factors, including an applicant’s years of experience, unique skills and abilities, education, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, other requirements for the position, and employer business practices.



What You Will Do
As the Director of Revenue Cycle Applications, this individual manages a team of Sharp HealthCare Revenue Cycle application managers and analysts and is accountable for the support, maintenance, optimization, and upgrade of the Identity, Prelude, Cadence, HIM/Coding, Resolute HB, Resolute PB, Tapestry, and EpicCare Link applications. This responsibility extends in varying purviews to non-Epic applications that are integrated with Epic and/or aligned with the Revenue Cycle including MDStaff, Experian, 3M/360, and ERP integration. This position reports to the Vice President of Revenue Cycle Management and ERP Systems and is responsible for overseeing the daily leadership, administration, and planning of software enhancements, maintenance, and the implementation of new modules or products. The individual works closely with IT Managers, IT Leads, and Project Management staff to ensure projects are completed as planned or specific components are successfully managed. They ensure that the software decision-making process aligns with governance structures, allowing for timely escalations when necessary. This role involves leveraging the governance framework to address team issues and collaborating with stakeholders or leadership to resolve clinical or revenue cycle problems. The individual ensures effective communication between teams regarding tasks and status updates and advocates for the applications they manage, representing them in various forums. They conduct weekly team meetings to review resource allocation, prioritize enhancement requests, and monitor task timelines. They collaborate with Business Owners to address software changes related to patient safety, regulatory compliance, or new local, state, or federal requirements. The role includes identifying risks, implementing mitigation strategies for upgrades and new projects, tracking key issues, milestones, timelines, and testing, and ensuring adherence to change control processes. This consistency ensures the quality of changes in the production environment. Additionally, the individual acts as a facilitator, helping different workgroups reach consensus on workflows and processes. While the primary focus is on the Epic product suite, other applications may be assigned to ensure aligned service delivery and customer support.

Required Qualifications
  • 5 Years experience in a health care I.T. setting that included a broad scope of project management, systems analysis, and extensive interaction at all levels of management and staff, focusing on supporting revenue cycle operations.
  • Specific experience and Epic Certification in some of the represented applications.

Other Qualification Requirements
  • Master's Degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Health Care Administration, or similar. Coursework to include I.T., management, accounting/finance, and quantitative skills. Bachelor’s Degree with 2 years relevant experience may be substitute for the Master's Degree. - REQUIRED

Essential Functions
  • Key Responsibilities
    Serve as IT owner and stakeholder of Revenue Cycle & Inter-Division Governance councils and user groups.
    Exercise leadership in promoting the implementation and adoption of enhancements to support revenue cycle operations and the Sharp HealthCare investment in Epic by partnering closely with business leaders and customers to align the work of the Epic revenue cycle application teams with organizational goals.
    Negotiate client requirements and resolve conflicting demands in view of limited resources and business objectives.
    Oversee the weekly assembly and execution of detailed application plans and status reports and summarize progress to the VP, CIIO, and other executives and committees as warranted.
    Communicate with business partner leadership and staff in managing quality of I.T., implementing corrective action, and identifying needs for new or improved information services and processes.
    Keep current on available and emerging technologies for applications in Sharp.
    Develop and implement policies and procedures consistent with principles of effective information management.
    Direct all aspects of procurement and budgeting for Revenue Cycle solutions to include all financial and vendor management, monitoring vendor performance and expenditures, budget versus actuals, as part of Sharp HealthCare's overall financial plan and objectives.
    Review, revise, develop, and maintain safety policies and procedures related to the division activities and work environment.
  • Division Accomplishments
    Direct all aspects of procurement and budgeting for Revenue Cycle solutions to include all financial and vendor management, monitoring vendor performance and expenditures, budget versus actuals, as part of Sharp HealthCare's overall financial plan and objectives.
    Communicate project status, targets, activities, and issues among I.T. and business partner leadership and staff. Gain consensus and approval on required changes.
  • Employee Management
    Position descriptions and salary ranges are reviewed and compared to community norms at least once annually.
    Complete employee performance appraisals within timeframes established by Human Resources.
    Conduct quarterly performance reviews of managers and provide feedback to all managers involved.
    Provide oversight and feedback pertaining to vendor performance for applicable engagements.
  • Work Organization
    Direct I.T., vendor, and business partner efforts in planning, development, implementation, and support of automated applications in support of Patient Financial Services and other business units as needed.
    Develop and implement strategies to coordinate and prioritize the change process of installed/implemented Revenue Cycle applications and solutions.
    Coordinate I.T. and business partner activities in planning for scheduled and unscheduled downtimes.
  • Leadership and Communication
    Exercise a leadership role throughout Sharp HealthCare in information technology initiatives. Chair project work groups and governance councils in Revenue Cycle and other business units as needed.
    Exercise leadership in promoting I.T. services, perspectives, and strategies within Sharp, through participation in meetings of diverse technical, client, and topical advisory groups.
    Promote the adoption of advanced information technologies through participation in, and communication with, various employee and management groups.
    Provide educational programs to improve the understanding and benefits of information technology and emerging issues for leadership and all employees.
    Proactively communicate with business partners through regular communication and periodic meetings to prevent communication issues or missing expectations.
  • Quality of Service
    Conduct an annual client satisfaction survey to measure the impact of key I.T. efforts, and to determine necessary measures for improving systems and support.
    Conduct Project Team Effectiveness Evaluations to measure the effectiveness of, and to identify necessary improvements for, each project team.
    Utilize the Department Service Questionnaire to measure the effectiveness of individual staff members.
    Implement satisfaction improvement measures within 30 days of identification of issues.
    Utilize regular reporting of project status to business partners and I.T. management to assure understanding, agreement, and attainment of project goals.
    Improve staff skills through formal and informal training arranged or conducted at least biannually.
  • Financial Management
    Maintain operating and capital expenses within budgeted amounts while maintaining service quality, unless variances are authorized.
    Submit proposed operating and capital budgets within the published and agreed timetable.
    Support Vice President/CIIO in planning and coordinating I.T. financial management issues.
  • Personal Accomplishments
    Address performance improvement issues identified in annual performance review.
    Attend at least one outside professional development exercise.
    Complete at least one outside course to improve in I.T. technical skills.
    Promote information issues involved in evolving Sharp-wide initiatives.
    Contribute to the marketing of I.T. leadership in the healthcare arena.

  • Thorough knowledge of I.T. methodologies and of legal, ethical, management, and organizational principles and standards for acute hospitals and health systems in the State of California.
  • Thorough knowledge of California healthcare business environment operating principles.
