The Gift Shop Assistant will support the daily operations by assisting volunteers with customer operations, providing customer service, processing inventory, entering data into the point of sale system, and other duties as needed.  This position requires flexibility as shifts will vary, to include weekends.
We are a department of three paid staff and more than 25 volunteers; this rewarding department raises funds for the Sharp Memorial Auxiliary through the hospital gift shops in Sharp Memorial and Sharp Mary Birch hospitals.
Sharp Memorial Hospital — the first hospital in San Diego with all private patient rooms — is dedicated to providing the highest-quality, patient-centered care and consists of 368 beds  . Designed to promote comfort and healing with the use of natural light and soothing colors, the hospital offers the latest medical technology and is home to San Diego’s largest, most modern Emergency and Trauma Center.

This position is located in La Mesa, San Diego County.  This position will be working at both Sharp Memorial Hospital and Sharp Mary Birch Hospital.
Per Diem, variable hours and shift, weekend as needed.  Work hours will be scheduled between 9:00 am through 7:00 pm. 
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of three years of retail experience to include customer service, inventory processing, merchandising and data entry
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, with ability to work cooperatively with volunteers, paid staff, customers, other hospital departments and outside vendors.
  • Computer skills required, including knowledge of computerized point of sale systems and inventory management.
