The Health Care Partner - HCP supports patient care activities, maintains equipment cleanliness, prepares equipment for repair, maintains supply stock, delivery of lab specimens, reports, assists department staff as needed, insures patient safety during transport, supports department's customer satisfaction practices, knowledge of basic clerical skills and computer programs, management of phone/paging system, serving as the central informational center for the unit.
The Perinatal Special Care Unit (PSCU) at Sharp Mary Birch is designated for San Diego women who have premature labor, or whose pregnancies have been complicated by conditions such as diabetes or high blood pressure. In addition, patients are admitted for observation due to a motor vehicle accident, polynephritis, uncontrolled post-partum hypertension and/or fertility treatment complications. The length of stay ranges from a few days to several months. A highly-skilled team including nurses and perinatologists, care for the high-risk antepartum patient on this specially designed 36-bed unit. There are education and therapeutic activities for patient such as Arts for Healing, Pet Therapy, High Tea Time, and A-Z Education. This unit is a first of its kind in San Diego and women who are admitted to this unit receives focused care no matter the duration of their stay.
