The Laboratory Assistant will perform data entry and laboratory specimen processing; organize and process orders and support the Sharp Experience to provide excellent customer service. Performs clerical functions related to patient reception. Checks working materials inventory, including expiration dates, and demonstrates ability to evaluate consumable levels to prevent shortages and expired supplies, and alerts ordering personnel in a timely manner. Works in a team environment and also be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Sharp Memorial Laboratory supports a large tertiary care hospital with Trauma, Cardio Surgery, Cardiac, Kidney and Pancreas Transplant Program, Women's and Children's, Behavioral Health, Cancer Center and Outpatient Surgery services. The lab supports all service lines on the campus and provides clinical lab outreach services to the community, including all other Sharp Healthcare Hospitals and Clinics. Lab disciplines include Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Microbiology, Pathology and Blood Bank. This position is located in Serra Mesa, San Diego County
8-hour night shift; including weekends as needed
This is a Per Diem position
Required Skills and Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Excellent direct customer service, communication and critical thinking skills
- Computer skills, data entry proficiency
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
- College coursework in Chemistry or Biology
- One year recent Clinical Laboratory experience
- Specimen handling and transporting experience
