Responsibilities
Summary
The Laboratory Assistant will perform data entry and laboratory specimen processing; organize and process orders and support the Sharp Experience to provide excellent customer service. Performs clerical functions related to patient reception. Checks working materials inventory, including expiration dates, and demonstrates ability to evaluate consumable levels to prevent shortages and expired supplies, and alerts ordering personnel in a timely manner. Works in a team environment and also be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Sharp Laboratories consist of 5 full service Hospital Laboratories, a Pathology Core Lab and 15 Patient Service Centers (Satellite Draw Stations). Lab disciplines include Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Microbiology, Pathology, Blood Bank and Outreach. Location
Variable assignment to all acute care hospital laboratories and outreach patient service centers (PSC), San Diego County
Hours
4-hour and 8-hour variable day and evening shifts; including every other weekend
This is a Per Diem position
Required Skills and Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Excellent direct customer service, communication and critical thinking skills
- Computer skills, data entry proficiency
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
- College coursework in Chemistry or Biology
- One year recent experience in a clinical laboratory
- Specimen handling and transporting experience
