The purpose of this role will be to develop and implement a comprehensive major gift program/strategies for Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center, a 250 bed hospital in the South Bay Community. Lead annual strategic planning and provide direction, build relationships, cultivate, solicit and steward individuals, foundations and corporations for gifts of $10,000 or more.Lead efforts for a strong Annual Giving/Events component, work closely with Development Officer charged with those duties.
Sharp HealthCare Foundation is a non-profit philanthropic organization raising and managing funds for Sharp Chula Vista as part of the Sharp HealthCare system. Sharp HealthCare is San Diego County's most comprehensive not-for-profit health care organization, reaching over 800,000 individuals each year. The Sharp integrated network includes centers of excellence in cardiac care, cancer care, trauma services and orthopedic services. Through a comprehensive development program that includes major gifts, planned gifts, annual giving, special events, individual donors and grants, Sharp HealthCare Foundation supports the patient care, community health and research function of Sharp entities. Sharp Chula Vista is undertaking a major capital campaign to raise funds to build a new patient care tower.
As the leading provider of health care services in the South Bay, Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center is a 343 bed facility that delivers high-quality care designed to meet the needs of the community. Home to the region’s most comprehensive heart program, it also has the area’s only radiation oncology center and certified community hospital cancer program. The hospital has San Diego County’s only comprehensive Bloodless Medicine and Surgery Center, which serves patients who wish to avoid blood transfusions for personal or religious reasons.
Sharp Chula Vista recently more than doubled the size of its Emergency Department and opened the new Douglas and Nancy Barnhart Cancer Center, a unique healing environment with the most advanced medical technology available for cancer treatment.

Full Time – Day Shift
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent equivalent combination of education and experience in major gift fundraising.
- A minimum of 4 years experience in fund development, preferably in a health care setting.
- Ability to plan, organize and direct fund-raising organizational activities.
Must have excellent written skills and be able to write proposals to donors outlining health programs that are understandable to a non-medical audience.
Must be personable, articulate, diplomatic and be skilled are asking for major gift donations in person and in writing.
Excellent oral and motivation skills required.
Experience in working with volunteers is important.
