Manager Government Reimbursement and Reporting

The person in this role will serve as Sharp Healthcare’s expert in Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement and reporting.Oversee a team of 4-5 to advise on the cost reporting and reimbursement implications of operational changes, provide analysis and financial impact of government rate changes, and ensure compliance with government reporting requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:The role of the Manager of Government Reimbursement & Reporting is to oversee, prepare and maintain appropriate hospital schedules and supporting audit documentation for required governmental reporting. It also encompasses serving as the hospitals’ primary liaison for any associated audits with external governmental agencies.

Key responsibilities include the following:

Reimbursement and Reporting Oversight

  • Manages the process of cost reporting for Medicare and Medicaid

  • Manages the process for preparing Medicaid DSH filings, California OSHPD filings, and other ad hoc external reports

  • Coordinates support for audits of cost reports and other third party filings

  • Leads the preparation of appeals and re-openings of Medicare and Medicaid cost reports, and coordinates the accurate settlements of all issues


  • Monitors and communicates to management the impact of proposed regulatory changes as needed

  • Maintains relationships with individuals across the organization, including key business partners at hospitals, Patient Financial Services, Finance and Legal

Leadership and Other

  • Leads a team of at least 3 individuals

  • Hire, retain and develop talent

  • Creates and maintains a work environment that is aligned with the organization’s goals and strategies

  • Seeks opportunities to continuously improve processes

  • Participate in other department initiatives as appropriate

Sharp HealthCare’s Corporate Finance department is primarily responsible for the preparation of monthly financial statements for Sharp HealthCare and its various entities, coordinating the preparation of Sharp’s annual operating budget, filing all required cost reports, tax returns and various other reports with the appropriate regulatory agencies, and coordinating Sharp’s annual external audit.

Sharp System Services have campuses located in the communities of Kearny Mesa and Serra Mesa and consist of the Spectrum location, the Ruffin Road location and Sharp Operations Center (SOC). These offices provide the centralized integrated system support services to the operating entities within the system. These services include: Strategic Planning, Business Development, Information Technology, Compliance, Internal Audit, Legal, Risk Management and Insurance, Contracts, Human Resources, Facilities Management and Development, Clinical Effectiveness, Finance, Nursing, Systems Supply Chain Services, Marketing and Communications, The Sharp Experience and Sharp University.

Full Time – Day Shift


Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelors’ degree

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of hospital Cost Report reimbursement accounting experience and / or Medicare or Medi-Cal auditor experience with a MAC or MAC subcontractor providing reimbursement and provider auditing services

  • Experience conducting research, thorough analysis, interpretation of findings and preparing concise, accurate reports.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft applications (i.e. Excel, Access, and Word) and Cost Reporting software is required.
