This position is located in Kearny Mesa, CA (San Diego County)
 
Hours
Variable shifts; every other weekend
6-hour PM shift M-F:  4:45 pm - 10:45 pm
8-hour Day shift Sat/Sun:  8:00 am - 4:30 pm
Part-time position (0.5 FTE, 40 hours/pay period)
 
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Graduate of an approved nursing program
  • Current unencumbered California Registered Nurse licensure
  • Current BLS certification for Healthcare Providers
  • Three to five years’ experience working as an RN in Acute Care settings
  • Previous experience in all three of the following areas: Adult, Pediatrics and OB Nursing
  • Previous phone or triage experience
  • Ability to use keyboard (touch typist) and mouse
  • Computer literate and has working knowledge of Windows applications
  • Excellent communication and telephone skills
 
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
  • ER, ICU, or Urgent Care experience

Summary
Sharp Nurse Connection® is Sharp HealthCare’s after-hours telephone triage nursing service. This service is staffed by all registered nurses who provide clinical assessment, triage and advice to patients. Sharp Nurse Connection uses state-of-the-art technology and nationally recognized and physician-approved clinical protocols to serve over 35,000 patients a year and is part of the rapidly expanding telehealth movement. The telephone triage nurses educate patients, allay their anxiety and/or direct them to the appropriate level of care facility. Triage nurses rely on their assessment skills, clinical nursing knowledge, and understanding of growth and development across the age continuum. Telephone triage nurses must have exceptional listening and communication skills to assess the urgency/acuity of the patient’s symptoms and to advise patients appropriately. The documentation from these calls is sent to the patient’s primary care physician for admission to their electronic health record.

There are 25+ registered nurses in the department who provide clinical assessment, triage and advice to patients. The service uses state-of-the-art technology and nationally recognized and physician-approved clinical protocols to serve over 35,000 patients a year. Sharp System Services have campuses located in the communities of Kearny Mesa and Serra Mesa and consist of the Spectrum location, the Ruffin Road location and Sharp Operations Center (SOC).  These offices provide the centralized integrated system support services to the operating entities within the system.  These services include: Strategic Planning, Business Development, Information Technology, Compliance, Internal Audit, Legal, Risk Management and Insurance, Contracts, Human Resources, Facilities Management and Development, Clinical Effectiveness, Finance, Nursing, Systems Supply Chain Services, Marketing and Communications, The Sharp Experience and Sharp University.
