This position is located in Serra Mesa, CA (San Diego County) 
8-hour shift, primarily day shift, but may have to attend meetings/events at other times; weekends as needed.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Current unencumbered California RN license
  • Current unencumbered California NP certificate
  • Masters of Science in Nursing or related Health Care degree or equivalent experience
  • Current BLS for Healthcare Providers
  • Strong advanced nursing skills
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Strong critical thinking, communication and physician collaboration skills
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
  • Furnishing number and DEA controlled Substance Registration
  • 1-5 years recent Nurse Practitioner experience in area of specialty (neurosurgical, orthopedic, ED/Trauma) strongly desired
  • Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNPC) Adult
  • AANPCB Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP)
  • Current ACLS certification
  • Expert level computer skills


The Nurse Practitioner will manage the Ortho/Neuro spine program under the direction or indirect supervision of the VP of Ortho/Neuro Services and the orthopedic surgeons involved in the care of the orthopedic trauma patient.  The position will manage the admissions and discharge issues of the spine patients, assist with the care management of the ortho trauma patients and acts as both a liaison between the Ortho/Neuro spine surgeons and the other disciplines and as a resource for nursing and ancillary team members.  Responsibilities include coordinating and facilitating compliance with CORE measures, facilitating quality improvement opportunities in the spine patient population and facilitating a weekly pre-operative education class for the spine program.  The Nurse Practitioner will coordinate the Deep Brain Stimulation Program and will actively participate in the Spine M&M Committee, Trauma Inter-disciplinary Committee and the Trauma M&M.
The Nurse Practitioner functions as a consultant to exceed and/or maintain the standard of care for the spine program and neurosurgical patients utilizing evidenced based practice.  The NP role also includes providing education for the patients, caregivers, and family members regarding injury prevention, medication safety, safe discharge and follow-up care.  The NP will demonstrate a commitment to professional growth and contributes to the nursing profession and/or community health.
The position is for the Ortho/Neuro Service Line at Sharp Memorial Hospital.  This Ortho/Neuro Service Line is instrumental in driving Quality and Patient Safety for the orthopedic and neuroscience patients.  The Ortho/Neuro Service Line encompasses the Joint Commission Certified Joint Replacement and Stroke Programs, Hip Preservation Program, Spine Program, and the Orthopedic Trauma Program.

Essential Physical Requirements may include:
  • Ability to stoop, bend, lift and carry medium weight
  • Ability to sit or walk for prolonged periods – up to 8 hours
