Hours
8-hour day shift, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm; no weekends at this time
Part-time 0.8 FTE position (64 hours per pay period)
 
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Current unencumbered California RN license
  • Current BLS certification for healthcare providers
  • BSN degree
  • RN experience in hospital/acute care setting
  • Ability to provide expertise within the area of diabetes and able to function in the following roles: clinical expert, educator, researcher and consultant
  • Computer skills:  Power Point, Excel, Outlook, Word, and EMR
  • Leadership skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experienced in presentations to small and large groups
  • Ability to demonstrate strong critical thinking skill
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team player with a multi-disciplinary team
  • Skilled in data collection and analysis
 
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
  • MSN
  • Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) Certification
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)

Summary
The Nursing Specialist II position with the Diabetes Clinic is an excellent opportunity for an RN who is either a Certified Diabetes Educator or is considering working towards obtaining the certification.  The selected candidate would be a member of a dynamic Interdisciplinary Diabetes Team composed of the Medical Director for Diabetes, the Director of the Diabetes Service Line, the Manager of the Diabetes Service Line, the Inpatient Diabetes Nurse Specialist, and a Clinical Pharmacist. The Nursing Specialist II provides diabetes care and education to patients on the Metro campus.
The Nursing Specialist II applies clinical expertise in evidence-based nursing practice within the specialty area of diabetes and functions in the following roles: clinical expert, educator, researcher, and consultant.  Leadership skills (system thinker and change agent) are role assumptions.
The Diabetes Service Line at Sharp Healthcare employs Registered Nurses and Registered Dietitians.  The Service Line provides inpatient and outpatient diabetes education, and Diabetes Disease Management at various sites throughout San Diego County.  The location for this position is the Sharp Metro campus in Kearney Mesa with primary office site at Sharp Memorial Hospital.  Sharp Memorial Hospital is a leader and innovator in Inpatient Diabetes Management both which allows for the opportunity to be a member of a progressive team in healthcare.
Sharp Memorial Outpatient Pavilion, located next to Sharp Memorial Hospital, offers a wide array of services including cancer treatment, laser vision correction, general and women’s imaging, outpatient surgery, endoscopy, diabetes education, and a community conference center and health library. At the heart of the Pavilion is the Cushman Wellness Center — providing comprehensive health evaluations tailored to an individual’s age and lifestyle, and integrative therapies to enhance physical, mental and spiritual health.
