Responsibilities

Summary
The Senior Construction Inspector will responsible for the inspection of every element of construction for new construction and renovation projects within the Sharp HealthCare system.  The Inspector will comply fully with all the California Building Code requirements for the inspections of Hospitals, Clinics and Skilled Nursing Facilities.  As “Inspector of Record” the Senior Construction Inspector will maintain detailed reports and files documenting the construction actives.  He/she will notify the appropriate authorities and stakeholders of all deficient work.  The Inspector will work cooperatively with the builders and designers in an effort to prevent errors and to assist in bringing projects to completion within the approved budgets, on time and at the highest level of quality possible.  During the construction process, the Inspector will help to assure operations are minimally impacted, all team members are working safely and effectively, and that information is shared and acted upon in a timely manner and construction process is adhered to by all parties.
The Facilities Management and Development division provides strategic directions, coordination and project management services for facility construction and improvement projects. In addition, it is responsible for property management services relating to Sharp-owned and leased space, including lease negotiation and administration, as well as system-wide centralized records storage and archiving, courier services and postal processing. The department employs ten project managers and three construction inspectors.
Sharp System Services have campuses located in the communities of Kearny Mesa and Serra Mesa and consist of the Spectrum location, the Ruffin Road location and Sharp Operations Center (SOC). These offices provide the centralized integrated system support services to the operating entities within the system. These services include: Strategic Planning, Business Development, Information Technology, Compliance, Internal Audit, Legal, Risk Management and Insurance, Contracts, Human Resources, Facilities Management and Development, Clinical Effectiveness, Finance, Nursing, Systems Supply Chain Services, Marketing and Communications, The Sharp Experience and Sharp University.

Hours
Full Time position - weekends as needed
 
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • AA in Construction Inspection Technology, Architecture, Construction Management, Business Administration, Health Care Administration, or equivalent experience
  • OSHPD Class A License
  • Eight (8) years of experience in the construction and /or inspection of Health care facilities with at least six (6) years as an OSHPD approved Inspector of Record
  • Knowledge of hospital and clinic design, construction and inspection processes, building codes, materials testing, cost reporting, construction nomenclature, construction documents and cost estimating
  • Knowledge of program and project management tools, such as Microsoft Project, Word, Excel, Prolog, PowerPoint, etc., and how to utilize them for analysis, planning, decision-making, presentation, and communication
  • Knowledge of construction quality control principles and practices with the ability to evaluate deficiencies and find solutions by interpreting code and functional requirements
  • Knowledge and awareness of construction safety requirements
  • The ability to communicate technical issues to nontechnical users/clients
  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and accurately with people verbally and in writing to achieve results for the organization
  • Skilled at conducting presentations and leading meetings when needed
  • Ability to effectively lead and mentor other inspectors
  • Ability to develop, propose and manage project inspection and testing budgets
  • Ability to practice good time management and to multi-task
  • Ability to negotiate and set priorities
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
  • BS in Architecture, Construction Management, Business Administration, Health Care Administration or related field
