This position provides leadership for the development and implementation of strategic and comprehensive multi-million dollar major gift philanthropy programs. In this position, the Senior Development Officer provides direction to build relationships, cultivate, solicit and steward individuals, foundations and corporations for gifts of $10,000 or more. Lead efforts for strong volunteer and physician participation, works closely with Sharp HealthCare Executive Leadership, Associated Boards of Directors of Sharp HealthCare and The Sharp HealthCare Foundation, Hospital CEO’s and Executive Leadership and collaborates and works closely with Foundation Development Officers charged with annual giving, stewardship and special events.
The Foundations of Sharp HealthCare (Sharp HealthCare Foundation, Grossmont Hospital Foundation and Coronado Hospital Foundation) are each a non-profit philanthropic organization raising and managing funds for all the entities that are part of the Sharp HealthCare system.Sharp HealthCare is San Diego County's most comprehensive not-for-profit health care organization, reaching over 800,000 individuals each year.The Sharp integrated network includes centers of excellence in cardiac care, cancer care, trauma services and orthopedic services. Through a comprehensive development program that includes major gifts, planned gifts, annual giving, special events, individual donors and grants, the Sharp HealthCare Foundations support the patient care, community health and research function of Sharp entities.
Sharp System Services have campuses located in the communities of Kearny Mesa and Serra Mesa and consist of the Spectrum location, the Ruffin Road location and Sharp Operations Center (SOC). These offices provide the centralized integrated system support services to the operating entities within the system. These services include: Strategic Planning, Business Development, Information Technology, Compliance, Internal Audit, Legal, Risk Management and Insurance, Contracts, Human Resources, Facilities Management and Development, Clinical Effectiveness, Finance, Nursing, Systems Supply Chain Services, Marketing and Communications, The Sharp Experience and Sharp University.
This position is located in Kearny Mesa, San Diego County
Full time - day shift, weekends as needed
Required Skills and Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience in major gifts.
Experience in working with volunteers is required.
A minimum of 4 years experience in fund development, preferably in a health care setting.
Experienced with planning, organizing and directing fundraising organizational activities.
Must have excellent written skills and be able to write proposals to donors outlining health programs that are understandable to a non-medical audience.
Must be personable, articulate, diplomatic and be skilled at asking for major gift donations in person and in writing.
Excellent oral and motivation skills.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
Gift planning experience.
Experience working in a healthcare setting.
Bilingual in English and Spanish.
