Senior Privacy/Security Process Analyst - SCMG Admin

This position is located in Kearny Mesa, San Diego County

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Requires bachelor’s degree in healthcare, information security, information systems, or related field
  • Relevant experience in excess of three (3) years or appropriate certifications may be substituted
  • Minimum of four (4) years of hands-on experience with information security
  • Highly proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications (specifically, Excel, Word, and Visio).
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and their potential business impact from an information security standpoint.
  • Demonstrated expertise in information security policies, principles, and practices
  • Knowledge of and experience with investigating information security incidents
  • Knowledgeable of the requirements for collecting, preserving and presenting evidence (e.g. admissibility, quality and completeness of evidence, chain of custody)
  • Knowledgeable in the components of a security incident response plan.
  • Knowledge of and experience with healthcare information systems (either business or clinical or both)
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills; strong math skills
  • Ability to be flexible and work in a rapidly and constantly changing environment
  • Ability to lead work teams consisting of cross-department resources
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Understanding of quality and performance improvement initiatives (Lean / Six Sigma)
  • Ability to effectively work with SCMG management, staff, physicians, and vendors; to communicate accurately and effectively with people, verbally and in writing
  • Ability to achieve results for the organization with and through people; to practice good time management and to demonstrate good leadership skills


Preferred Skills and Qualifications

  • Ambulatory healthcare business knowledge and experience with practice management and/or electronic health records
  • Supervisory or managerial experience
  • Thorough knowledge of information systems principles and practices, and on the legal, ethical, managerial and organizational principles and standards for clinics, acute care hospitals, and multi-facility health systems in California
  • Industry-standard HIPAA privacy and security training and/or certification (e.g., CPHIMS, ISACA, ISC2, CompTIA)




Sharp Community Medical Group (SCMG) is one of the state's largest and most successful IPAs. Established in 1989, it has over 140,000 members and is comprised of 200 primary care physicians and 500 specialists. The Health Services division of SCMG coordinates the medical care of members for inpatient and outpatient services and has a staff of 80 nurses, coordinators and support personnel to manage utilization review, case management and quality improvement functions. Sharp Community doctors admit to all Sharp hospitals and Rady Children’s Hospital. In addition, Sharp Community patients have access to urgent care centers throughout the county.

Working under the direction of the Manager, SCMG Privacy and Security, this position is responsible for the development, implementation, and support of the operational portions of information security solutions for SCMG’s Physician Practices. The candidate must have strong leadership skills and experience.

Interact with teams and departments outside SCMG’s Privacy and Security team to promote best practices in handling information. Assist in the design and development of a program for SCMG information security awareness, training, and education. Develop, communicate, and maintain standards, procedures, and other documentation (e.g., guidelines, baselines) that support SCMG information security policies. Communicate and maintain information security policies that support the SCMG security strategy. Provide information security advice and guidance to SCMG’s independent practices.
