The Surgical Technologist will use their expertise in asepsis and equipment to prepare the operating room. They will work to help ensure that the operating room is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety while maintaining the integrity of the sterile field.
The Women’s Surgery with its 9 Surgery Suites, at Sharp Mary Birch Hospital for Women and Newborns (SMBHWN) provides a full range of medical and surgical services for women of all ages. SMBHWN affiliated physicians perform both advanced hysteroscopy and laparoscopy as minimally invasive procedures in an environment specifically tailored to the care and comfort of women. More minimally invasive gynecologic procedures have been performed at SMBWN than any other hospital in San Diego, including more than 700 robotic-assisted surgeries.
Sharp Mary Birch Hospital for Women and Newborns is a nationally recognized, full-service Women's Hospital with approximately 8,500 deliveries per year and is part of the Sharp HealthCare system, which won the 2007 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. In 2013 the hospital earned Prominent Designation as a Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery. Sharp Mary Birch Hospital for Women and Newborns provides a full range of medical and surgical services for women of all ages, including robotic gynecologic surgery and oncology and is San Diego's only hospital dedicated to women's care. It is nationally recognized for its care of expectant mothers and delivering babies, as well as its Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit – the largest in Southern California. Other services include Operating Room suites and PACU, Mother/Infant Services, Women’s Acute Care, and the Perinatal Special Care Unit with centralized monitoring specializing in high-risk antepartum care.
This position is located in Serra Mesa, San Diego County
Per Diem - 12 hour Night position
6:30pm - 7:00am - Weekends as needed
On call requirement
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Graduate from an approved Surgical Technologist School/Course
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
- One year scrub experience in a hospital setting
- Recent one year experience scrubbing in the following cases: OB/GYN, Labor and Delivery, plastics and general surgical
- Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification via the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)
- High School diploma or equivalent
