Vice President Clinical Applications IT – Sharp HealthCare

Summary:

Our Vice President Clinical Applications will be responsible for the leadership of clinical applications in Information Systems department, including Single Vendor Solution Electronic Medical Record strategy along with various physician and patient facing technologies. Works with leadership teams of all Sharp HealthCare entities to develop strategic plans and priorities for Information Systems applications and ensures implementation of agreed upon objectives.

Will provide leadership for overall direction of the planning, establishment and enforcement of service standards to ensure information integrity and consistency of all clinical applications systems. Utilizes creative and analytical skills to solve new and complex problems.

Directs a staff of Information Systems professionals consulting with and assisting all levels of management and staff throughout Sharp HealthCare. Maintains current knowledge of emerging technologies and applications, as well as developments and evolution in clinical practice, hospital/medical group operations and finance.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Minimum of ten (10) years increasingly responsible information technology management experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years in a complex, multi-entity health care system that included applications systems management (i.e. Cerner, EPIC, etc.) with extensive interaction at all levels of management, medical staff and clinician.
  • Business and Clinical systems or hospital operations department experience desirable.

Education: 

  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Computer Science or Health Care Administration. Coursework to include information systems, management, accounting/finance and quantitative skills.
  • Bachelor’s Degree with relevant experience may be substituted.

Essential Functions: (partial list)

  • Leads the development and recommends goals/objectives for applications to senior management.
  • Develops strategies for the direction of and leads Information Systems activities relative to applications for all Sharp HealthCare facilities.
  • Provides leadership on the Sharp-wide Single Vendor Solution Electronic Medical Record strategy and implementation to achieve agreed upon quality and outcomes objectives.
  • Builds partnership with physicians, administration, business and clinical leadership of all entities to develop and deploy application strategies and to achieve Sharp's mission.
  • Maintains technical and application currency by on-going formal education tempered and supplemented by related work experience.
  • Establishes plans and recommends policies and procedures for applications within the Information Systems Department to meet the organization's mission.
  • Ensures quality of applications, developing corrective actions and identifying needs for new or improved information services.
  • Leads the planning and execution of large-scale development efforts, implementations of commercial software packages, and modifications to the installed applications.
  • Ensures the establishment, utilization and monitoring of appropriate service level standards consistent with customer expectations and agreements, and Information Systems program management policies and practices.
  • Establishes, directs and executes vendor relationships to ensure delivery, implementation and operation of applications that are reliable and meet or exceed agreed upon expectations and optimize applications.
  • Leads the planning, organization and direction of contract and in-house resources to provide effective ongoing implementation and support for applications.

  • Ability to utilize creative and well as analytical problem-solving techniques to extremely varied situations.
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions consistent with overall corporate and departmental objectives.
  • Ability to effectively manage the activities and personnel; to work effectively with physicians, all levels of management and staff, consultants and vendors.
  • Communicate clearly, concisely and accurately with people, verbally and in writing; to achieve results for the organization with and through people.
  • Thorough Knowledge of healthcare information systems and of legal, ethical, management and organizational principles and standards for health systems in the State of California.

The position provides a very competitive compensation, including opportunity to participate in a management bonus incentive program along with a generous benefit package.
