More than meets the eye — a Sharp journey

Beth is the kind of caregiver who understands the power of a single moment. With decades spent in eye care, she has witnessed countless patients’ journeys, but one remains unforgettable. Like when a young man, nearly blind for years, came to her clinic seeking help, then walked out seeing the world clearly for the first time. “It was one of the most emotional moments of my career,” she says, “and it transformed his life.” And hers.


Beth began her career in 1987, shortly after moving from Ohio to California. Starting as a receptionist, she soon transitioned to an optometric assistant, after discovering a passion for patient care that would ultimately guide her life. “I wasn’t truly a California girl yet, but this work quickly made me feel at home,” she recalls. That early experience led her through years of meaningful work in optometry, ophthalmology and retina care with patients and colleagues where every day she witnesses small victories that leave lasting impressions.


Moments of transformation define her work — like watching a patient blink in surprise at clear vision for the first time or guiding a colleague through a challenging procedure. Every patient who leaves the clinic with a brighter view of the world is a reminder of why she came to California all those years ago.


Today, Beth supervises the Eye Centers at Rancho Bernardo, Santee, Scripps Ranch and Sorrento Mesa. She credits her tenure at Sharp HealthCare to the people around her, a team committed to delivering exceptional care.
