Hourly Pay Range (Minimum - Midpoint - Maximum):

$25.550 - $31.860 - $35.680

What You Will Do
The Imaging Patient Coordinator (IPC) plays a crucial role as a patient coordinator within the Imaging department. They provide a point of care approach and guide patients through the process of scheduling interventional breast imaging procedures. The IPC is responsible for developing strong relationships with physicians, office staff, and patient navigators to ensure coordination of multiple imaging services for patients while providing excellent care. The IPC coordinates scheduling procedures with surgery, medical oncology, and chemotherapy departments. The IPC communicates scheduling dates and times with patients and provides a high level of customer service consistent with Sharp HealthCare's mission and goals. This position involves close collaboration with patients, physicians, clinical staff, breast navigators and support personnel throughout Sharp HealthCare.

Required Qualifications

  • H.S. Diploma or Equivalent
  • 3 Years experience in radiology/imaging patient scheduling.
  • 1 Year experience in scheduling breast imaging, mammography, and/or interventional procedures.


Essential Functions

  • Scheduling
    Schedule for all breast imaging procedures to include interventional and diagnostic exams.
    Obtain orders to ensure all necessary and correct information to include: authorization, diagnosis and CPT codes, current history, physician signature, patient demographics, correct order with laterality and pertinent notes/comments.
    Schedule multiple imaging procedures in coordination with other related patient appointments outside of Radiology department.
    Provide pertinent information to the Radiologists for review ensuring procedure appropriateness.
    Communicate with the patient and/or designee informing them of date and time of scheduled procedure, to include pre-procedure preparations, detailed description of the procedure and aftercare instructions.
    Answer any questions or concerns from the patient and/or designee.
    Coordinate patient consultation with appropriate Radiologist.
    Inform leadership and/or staff when special requirements are requested for patient orders.
    Assist in coordinating/arranging patient transport as needed.
    Ongoing patient point of contact/resource for all breast imaging procedures.
    Organize work according to the work queue and prioritize work accordingly.
    Collection of data as needed for procedures.
  • Communication
    Facilitate interaction and collaboration with health care providers and staff on behalf of patients.
    Identify personnel in departments involved in the care of patients including physicians, nurses and medical staff for surgery, radiation, chemotherapy and oncology departments, to establish coordinated healthcare workflow.
    Work collaboratively with nurse navigators to coordinate scheduling efforts for patients throughout their breast care journey.
    Establish excellent communication to facilitate initial and follow up care.
    Utilizes effective communication within Imaging Department with radiologists to add on same day breast biopsies.
    Establishing ongoing communication with patients for all breast imaging procedures.
    Perceived by other health care workers as approachable when assisting in the achievement of established goals and objectives.
    Communication to leadership any assistance that is needed in a timely manner.
  • Teamwork
    Consult with team members in development of referrals and resource recommendations.
    Coordination with SRS Imaging Department Mammography Office to obtain outside prior imaging expeditiously.
    Maintains on-going communication with multi-disciplinary team members regarding patients' status and follow-up.
    Documents consultation, recommendations, and interventions.
    Makes suggestions to leadership for improvement.
    Assists in training employees as required.
  • Patient Advocate
    Reviews treatment plan for scheduling and brings inconsistencies to the attention of the leader, physician, or nurse.
    Initiate communication with patients upon learning they have a suspicious diagnostic testing or positive finding.
    Assist with scheduling appointments, arranging transportation and assuring follow up care.
    Provide education and access to community support.
    Refers to internal resources that can assist patients and families.
    Serves as a liaison between health care professionals, the patient and family to facilitate and coordinate imaging scheduling.
    Assess the emotional needs of patients and their families and provide support and/or mechanism to find answers to their questions or concerns and the ability to make healthcare decisions.
    Encourages patients and family participation in the decision-making process.
    Protects patient privacy by maintaining confidentiality.
  • Regulatory Compliance
    Maintains knowledge of scheduling standards and requirements of accreditation body.
    Participates in programs and policies to meet standards.
    Manages backlogs to ensure appropriate time frames for biopsies and works to add on same day STAT biopsies.
