Hourly Pay Range (Minimum - Midpoint - Maximum):

$57.740 - $74.490 - $83.440

What You Will Do
To perform a wide variety of technical procedures with quality patient care, assisting Physicians as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Satisfactory completion of formal training program in an AMA approved school for American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist (ARMRIT) and/or American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) MRI Pathway certified.
  • AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) - American Heart Association -REQUIRED
  • Venipuncture Certification - Various-Employee provides certificate -REQUIRED
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging Certification (MR)(ARRT) - ARRT OR ARMRIT Certification - American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists -REQUIRED


Preferred Qualifications

  • 1 Year Leadership and experience in MRI


Other Qualification Requirements

  • ABMRS MRSO board certified preferred.


Essential Functions

  • Daily operations
    Assures daily staffing levels are appropriate for workload and qaulity patient care needs.
    Supervision of day-to-day activities of Radiology Personnel to ensure efficient staff productivity.
    Ensures that patient flow within the department is consistent and organized.
    Problem solves to promote positive relationships with internal and external customers.
    Facilitates referring physicians requests.
    Ensures adequate inventory and equipment maintenance in the department.
    Maintains professional and positive atmosphere in the department.
    Ensures adherence to department Policy, Procedure and guidelines (i.e. dress code, radiation safety, standard precautions).
  • Education patient and family
    Provides pre and post education and reassurance to include but not limited to: What the procedure is, how long it is going to take, physician involved, contrast administration and mode of delivery, positioning, instructions related to procedure, the report, patient satisfaction form, etc.
    Interacts and communicates in a manner to reflect an understanding of teh patient's age, culture state of health, level of comprehension.
    Communicates and interacts with the patient family in a way that is perceived positive and supportive while maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Leadership
    Timely completion of staff schedules.
    Provides input to manager/supervisor/ops coordinator on hiring and promotion decisions, corrective actions, coaching and counseling.
    Ensures completion of performance appraisals and competencies (new hire and annual/ongoing).
    Ensures lunch and break relief is provided to all staff.
    Communicates pertinent issues to the manager/ops coordinator/supervisor on a timely basis.
    Supports development of technical/student staff.
    Acts as a resource to staff and physicians.
  • Patient care
    Verifies patient identification and pregnancy status.
    Implements safe, efficient and therapeutic care.
    Performs proper procedure on proper patient.
    Demonstrates knowledge of universal precautions.
    Observes the patient, reports and changes in status, and initiates appropriate action to ensure a positive outcome. Follows patient's Advance Directive.
    Maintains strict patient confidentiality, keeps work discussion professional and limited to private areas.
  • Quality Imaging Procedures
    Performs high quality MRI procedures and patient care in compliance with department policies, procedures, and guidelines.
    Perform all MRI procedures and safely operate equipment associated with MRI including maintenance and cleaning/disinfect per guidelines.
    * Complete appropriate MRI sequences based upon department protocol and standard developed for diagnosis of patient.
    * Select correct pre-programmed protocol based on ordered procedures.
    * Perform normal startup and end of shift shut down.
    * Knowledge of emergency patient removal from zone IV, gantry and locations of all emergency stops and shutdowns and emergency equipment.
    * Perform and document weekly equipment testing and quality control as required.
    * Demonstrate working knowledge of set-up MRI compatible cardiac monitor and/or directions to the patient's RN on infusion pump use.
    * Follow equipment disinfection procedures between each patient use.
    * Initiate and document equipment repair/maintenance as required.
    Understand MRI protocols, parameter selection criteria and how to optimize MRI image based upon the patient, procedure and/or diagnosis.
    * Understand axial, coronal and sagittal plane scanning.
    * Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of appropriate coil selection based upon patient's age, size and body habitus.
    * When deviating from pre-programed protocols understand how changes in parameters and pulse sequences are reflected upon scan duration and image quality.
    * Compare scanning parameters against the pre-programed parameters to ensure nothing has been inadvertently changed/altered.
    * Acquire and transmit the appropriate number of series and post processing reformatted image determined by the type of protocol and procedure.
    Demonstrate knowledge of MRI power injector equipment including injection timing, vascular access and venipuncture techniques.
    * Complete and ensure patients meet screening criteria for contrast administration.
    * Screen and document patients for pregnancy status prior to contrast administration.
    * Apply venipuncture skills and appropriate assessment of vascular access for contrast injections.
    * Knowledge and understanding of weight-based dosing.
    * Capture peak contrast enhancement.
    * Select injector protocol appropriate for procedure.
    * Include contrast-screening record in patient's medical record.
    Accurately and timely transfer images from modality to PACS and/or appropriate network destinations.
    * Accurately select correct patient/procedures from the modality work list.
    * Accurately identify and annotate images.
    * Confirm images are available in PACS for Radiologist/Clinician viewing.
  • Regulatory requirements
    Stay current on regulatory requirements, gather information and assist inspector.
    Ensures all exams are completed properly and all images are accounted for by the end of the shift.
    Verify physician's written order and assures appropriate clinical indication ordered exams.
    Begin exam in IDXrad.
    Accurately completes exams in IDXrad, filling out appropriate information (contrast, fluoroscopy time, QC, resource, technical modifiers, technologist/student/RN, radiologist).
    Provide correct coding of exams, billing modifiers, supplies.
    Depart patient in IDXrad when appropriate.
    Ensure film jacket is properly labeled.
    Ensure paperwork is filed appropriately.
  • Radiation safety and equipment
    Demonstrate extensive knowledge and understanding of MRI safety. MRSO responsibilities include:
    Being readily accessible and available to the operators of the MRI systems at all times while the MR facility is accessible.
    Ensure that proper policies and procedures for day-to-day MRI safety are enforced.
    Develop and maintain MRI safety forms used by staff to safely screen all individuals entering the MRI department.
    Develop, document, and introduce safe working procedures for the MR environment.
    Ensure that adequate written safety procedures, work instructions, emergency procedures, and operating instructions are issued to all concerned.
    Manage hazards posed by the MR equipment and monitoring the measures taken to protect against such hazards.
    Ensure that management and senior medical staff members who are responsible for personnel who will be involved with the MR system are informed of the formal procedures for training and authorization.
    Ensure that medical, technical, nursing, and all other relevant staff groups (including ancillary workers) who may be exposed to the MR environment are educated appropriately on a regular basis as to the safety requirements and updated as necessary.
    Maintain records of the personnel who have been educated appropriately as to the safety requirements.
    Ensure that there is a clear policy for the purchasing, testing, and marking of all equipment that will be taken into the MR-related critical areas.
    Access resources to determine if device(s) are MRI safe, unsafe or conditional.
    Escalate any patient condition that could pose potential safety hazard.
    Communicate contra-indications to ordering physician.
    Review all potentially hazardous devices with the Radiologists as necessary. Provide documentation in patient chart for future reference.
    Maintain regular contact with other relevant groups or committees responsible for the safety and welfare of personnel on site, such as, but not limited to, the local ethics committee and the local safety committee.
    Monitor MRI area and maintain compliance with safety Zones.
    Demonstrate ability to function in emergency and maintain safety for patient and staff.
