$43.650 - $56.340 - $63.100The stated pay scale reflects the range that Sharp reasonably expects to pay for this position. The actual pay rate and pay grade for this position will be dependent on a variety of factors, including an applicant’s years of experience, unique skills and abilities, education, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, other requirements for the position, and employer business practices.

What You Will Do
Assists patients, staff and physicians as needed to maintain a high level of efficiency of operations and customer service while providing quality care to the designated patient population. Identifies, develops and maintains quality laboratory services in the pulmonary laboratory.
Required Qualifications
- California Respiratory Care Practitioners (RCP) - Respiratory Care Board of CA
- AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) - American Heart Association
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree
- Two (2) years recent clinical experience
- Leadership experience
- Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT) - National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
Essential Functions
- Clinical skills
Demonstrates thorough and competent job knowledge and application:
Correctly interprets and overrides erroneous computer interpretation of Sleep Apnea monitor tracings.
Differentiates between abnormal tracings versus artifact while visualizing recorded historical pulmonary function.
Recognizes potential life threatening abnormalities and immediately reports and/or reviews data with a physician to assure that appropriate intervention occurs without delay.
Composes a complete diagnostic summary of events for the recording period.
Confers with physicians to insure that all final reports are correct, PFT, SAM's, reports.
Prepares equipment for pulmonary function tests and bronchoscopies.
Manages complete Stardust System (sleep apnea monitors) for all of Sharp Rees-Stealy.
Integrating, troubleshooting, maintaining equipment and functionality.
Demonstrates advanced knowledge in Pulmonary physiology.
Utilizes clinical database to produce patient reports.
Clinical Expertise: Demonstrates technical expertise and competency, acts as a clinical resource for the designated area of responsibility. Partners with physicians to continuously learn and expand clinical knowledge base.
Patient Education: In partnership with physician, assists with developing patient education material and provides individual teaching. Identifies educational needs and works with physicians and manager to develop teaching programs to meet those needs.
Infection Control: Uses Universal Precautions and demonstrates knowledge of infection control policies and procedures.
Other: Participates in clinical projects as directed by the physician or department supervisor.
Front Desk: Provides assistance to staff in resolving issues related to front desk responsibilities including scheduling. Serves as a positive role model to staff and ensures appropriate service delivery.
Serves as a resource person for the SRS-DT Pulmonary Laboratory. Processes and submits charge tickets in a timely fashion. Training of new SRS staff in pulmonary function testing. Assists in the management of patients on oxygen therapy. - Customer service
Acts as a role model to identify and resolves issues regarding the delivery of care within the Sharp Rees-Stealy organization. Responds in a manner that is perceived by the patient to be pleasant, caring and responsive. Most issues are to be solved at this level.
Smiles, makes eye contact, uses warm and professional tone of voice when calling patients and escorting them to the exam room.
Addresses all patients by first and last name, unless otherwise requested by the patients. Checks for correct name pronunciation.
Introduces self, using first name and role/title. Wears name badge where it can be easily seen at all times.
Provides physical assistance to patients as indicated (e.g., getting onto exam table in exam rooms).
Ensures patient is comfortable while waiting in exam room.
Returns regularly and explains delays to patients waiting in exam rooms.
Keeps PSR informed of back office events and status.
Utilizes SAM log to track studies and keeps nursing advised of any studies that are clinically acceptable and need to be repeated.
Refrains from discussion of personal issues or patient-related conditions where patients can overhear. Consistently monitors voice volume in patient care areas. Adheres to Sharp HealthCare policies and procedures regarding confidentiality.
Maintains patient privacy, i.e., occupied exam room doors are kept shut, patient information is not discussed where it can be overheard or shared inappropriately.
Assists patient who appears to be lost or confused.
Follows all policies and procedures for telephone etiquette and protocol.
Teamwork: Consistently acts as a team player. Demonstrates willingness to help co-workers, recognizes other efforts.
Uses positive communication skills, identifies issues, makes suggestions related to access, patient care and patient satisfaction to immediate supervisor and offers solutions for resolution in cooperation with other team members (Providers, PSRs, etc.)

Gives and receives feedback about care and service delivery.
Displays a willingness to float and assist in other department and at other sites.
Staff Training and Development: Assists in scheduling and organizing clinical and technical in-services.
Provides ongoing clinical and service support and serves as preceptor/mentor for new nurse, technicians, and other staff. - Daily operations
Demonstrates departmental efficiency and effectiveness as measured by:
Daily Organization: Monitors patient flow, physician schedules and completes daily tasks to ensure quality and meet service standards. Reviews charge tickets for accuracy and completeness. Follow policy and procedure for entering of OCM and other clinical information systems. Completes work within assigned hours.
Leadership: Consistently pro-active in team development and in problem-solving to meet department goals. Actively and positively strives to implement departmental goals and supports changes. Acts as a resource and role model for staff. Facilitates interdepartmental cooperation and teamwork. Consistently strives to develop leadership skills by proactively problem solving to meet unit goals, actively and positively contributing to unit, actively strives to implement unit goals and support positive change.
Employee Certification: Maintains certifications.
Policy and Procedure: Follows all SRS policies and procedures. Adheres to Appearance Standards Categories II and III. Maintains attendance, tardiness, and breaks within standards. Maintains use of internet for personal use only during rest or meal breaks.
Other: Attends/participates in departmental/unit activities such as meetings and training. Performs all other duties as required by the department supervisor.
Manager evaluation: 90% positive evaluation based on a minimum of 4 observations per year meets standard. Manager, physician input. No more than 2 documented exceptions per year. - Quality assurance
Demonstrates clear knowledge and accountability of quality regulations and standards for department. - Safety
Maintains a safe work environment, as measured by:
Follows established guidelines for infectious control policy and procedure. Annual skin test and BCLS are current.
Maintains environmental/equipment safety and reports any potential hazardous situation to supervisor/manager.
Attends all mandatory safety training inservices.
Manager/Supervisor Observation: 90-95% positive evaluation based on a minimum of 4 observations per year meets standard. No more than 2 documented exceptions per year. TB skin test must be kept current to meet standard.
