$28.170 - $35.210 - $39.430The stated pay scale reflects the range that Sharp reasonably expects to pay for this position. The actual pay rate and pay grade for this position will be dependent on a variety of factors, including an applicant’s years of experience, unique skills and abilities, education, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, other requirements for the position, and employer business practices.
What You Will Do
To assist the pharmacist in providing pharmaceutical services that supports the mission, values and philosophy of Pharmacy Services and Sharp HealthCare. Performs technical tasks involved in the preparation, documentation and distribution of intravenous medications. Provides operational, developmental, and quality assurance / improvement support for IV admixture programs.
Required Qualifications
- 1 Year experience in a hospital pharmacy environment or equivalent intravenous sterile compounding experience.
- California Pharmacy Technician License (TCH) - CA State Board of Pharmacy -REQUIRED
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board -PREFERRED
Essential Functions
- IV Medication Dispensing/Clinical IV Practice
Displays consistently high accuracy in the preparation of IV admixtures by using strict aseptic technique, picking the correct medication and calculating admixture contents. Is familiar with available technologies utilized in sterile compounding.
Prepares all IV admixtures in strict accordance with established guidelines.
Properly handles and prepares chemotherapeutic agents using the appropriate precautions and in accordance with current USP 800 guidelines.
Organizes workload to accomplish all admixture tasks in time to meet established batch delivery times.
Performs primary check of labeling to ascertain completeness of label according to established procedures.
Always obtains pharmacist check prior to dispensing IV admixtures.
Willingly responds to special admixture requests: i.e. STAT, ASAP and now medication orders.
Recycles IVs where possible and removes expired products from circulation.
Maintains IV area in a clean/orderly manner and restocks prior to the end of shift.
Communicates workload or operational issues to supervisors in a consistent and timely manner.
Consistently prioritizes and completes workload in a manner that promotes smooth pharmacy operations.
Sustains a high level of accuracy by consistently selecting, ordering and restocking the correct medication, dosage, and strength - Hazardous/Chemotherapy Preparation
Demonstrates competency of Hazardous Medication / Chemotherapy Compounding and USP 800 guidelines.
Properly handles and accurately prepares chemotherapeutic agents using the appropriate precautions per established policies and procedures.
Is competent in the use of Closed System Transfer Device (CSTD).
Equipment maintenance and monitoring - Medication Safety
Proactively identifies potential medication safety improvement opportunities such as look alike, sound alike medication storage and packaging issues, delivery / storage / security related issues, inventory management issues, etc.
Participates in the development of medication safety initiatives to prevent occurrence or reoccurrence of medication safety events.
Demonstrates awareness and adherence to medication safety communications and initiatives delivered by pharmacy management and Safe Medication Practice team.
Participate in surveillance initiatives such as: Pyxis override report monitoring, controlled substance audits, medication safety event reporting, etc. - Equipment Maintenance and Monitoring
Monitors hood inspection dates and facilitates inspection process.
Assures that laminar hood pre-filters are checked each month and either cleaned or replaced as appropriate.
Maintains documentation of pre-filter changes.
Maintains documentation in the Manufacture Logs and Patient Picklists.
Participates in employee process validation and end product testing of admixed products.
Cleans and documents cleaning of horizontal laminar flow hood / Biological Safety Cabinet, and performs all tubing and IV solution changes, equipment setup, testing and calibrations according to department procedures 100% of the time.
Monitors and documents monitoring on refrigerator/freezer temperature log.
Removes outdated and unusable medications.
Maintains neat and organized work area at all times.
Maintains integrity of Pharmacy Waste streams. - Purchasing
Initiate ordering and receiving of controlled substances while assuring no discrepancies or deviations from practice standards. Ordering of enteral formula and bags, TPN electrolytes, solutions, and supplies. - Sterile Product Quality Assurance
Perform environment monitoring for Sterile Compounding Quality Assurance:
* Environment Testing – Air and Surface Testing,
* Process Validation qualification for all staff
* Clean-down – daily, weekly, and monthly
* Hazardous Drug Residue Testing
* Monitor sterile product room quality assurance required tasks (daily, weekly, monthly, etc.) and either work with staff to complete on time and report to leadership when overdue.
Supervise and confirm PVs (Process Validation) which includes but not limited to Handwashing, Garbing, Gloved Fingertip testing, various types of Hood cleaning, PATT2, TPN and Chemo Validation, pull and file media kits certificate of analysis, and HD surface sampling. - Communication and Teamwork

Represents department and Sharp HealthCare in a professional and competent manner. - Delivery Coordination
Pulling medications and supplies, prioritizing processing of orders, update inventory and ordering of drugs and supplies. Determine priority for delivery and work with driver coordinator to ensure timely and efficient medication deliveries to various areas within San Diego region. Log and update delivery tickets, as necessary.
Communicating to various disciplines and departments for timely arrangement of medication processing and delivery coordination.
