Hourly Pay Range (Minimum - Midpoint - Maximum):

$26.500 - $33.125 - $39.750


The stated pay scale reflects the range that Sharp reasonably expects to pay for this position.  The actual pay rate and pay grade for this position will be dependent on a variety of factors, including an applicant’s years of experience, unique skills and abilities, education, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, other requirements for the position, and employer business practices.

What You Will Do
In this role, you have will have the opportunity to work at our different outpatient pharmacy clinics in San Diego County assisting our pharmacists in providing pharmaceutical services to our patients.

Required Qualifications

  • H.S. Diploma or Equivalent
  • California Pharmacy Technician License (TCH) - CA State Board of Pharmacy -REQUIRED


Preferred Qualifications

  • 1 Year Experience in a hospital/retail pharmacy environment
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board -PREFERRED


Essential Functions

  • Daily operations
    Process daily reports at the end of each shift.
    Assists lead technician in processing daily, weekly and monthly reports and claims within the designated time frames.
    Performs pharmacy computer back-up procedure at the end of each day.
    Sets phone to call forward at the end of each shift, removes call forwarding and transcribes voicemail messages each morning.
    Assures that incoming phone calls are answered within 3 rings and with courtesy.
    Files original prescription hard copies numerically in designated prescription books each shift.
    Reconcile monies from medication courier services accurately at the end of each shift.
    Archives prescriptions as deemed necessary according to Sharp protocol.
    Willing and able to step into any technical role to help achieve a smooth pharmacy work flow.
    Willing and able to fill in at other sites to help meet the needs of the pharmacy.
    Stock supplies at the end of each shift.
  • Distribute medication to patients
    Greets personnel entering the pharmacy with smile and acknowledges their presence.
    Accurately gathers and documents patient's name, demographics, insurance information, drop off time and indicates known drug allergies in accordance to department standards for all walk in prescription orders.
    Communicates to patient any delays in prescription processing and the steps taken to resolve the issue in a timely manner.
    Double checks each completed prescription prior to bagging, verifying the labeled medications match the enclosed bag ticket.
    Checks "will call" shelf weekly to see if any medications have not been picked up. Calls patients and notifies that medications are ready for pick up.
    Follows Return to Stock guidelines for all medications that are not picked up.
    Documents all medications picked up or delivered by having receiving party sign insurance log and adhering immediately to form.
    Asks for second identifier for every patient picking up a prescription.
    Accurately, and within designated time frames, prepares prescriptions, refills or balance for delivery or mail out prior to arrival of daily delivery driver.
    Follows up prior to closing if deliveries are not picked up by courier and arrange for pickup at alternate location.
    Documents all communication with patients regarding prescription status including, but not limited to, Call When Ready (CWR), medication shortage, etc.
    After receipt of medications from wholesaler checks and fills drugs on order according to site procedures. Contacts patients if necessary.
    Maintains appropriate levels of change in cash register.
    Accurately handles all cash, charge, delivery and doctor payroll deduct payments for all merchandise leaving the pharmacy.
    Consistently provides paying customers with a receipt for transactions.
    Maintain adequate inventory of cash register and credit card machine supplies.
    Perform end of day duties, including but not limited to, z-out register and credit card machine reconciliation.
    Initials voided transactions and refunds appropriately following system standards.
  • Inventory control
    Monitors and documents refrigerator/freezer temperatures daily.
    Removes outdated and unusable medications.
    Maintains neat and organized work areas.
    Accurate processing of prescriptions with all necessary and complete information.
    Accurate processing of all Durable Medical Equipment (DME) and injectables including but not limited to diagnosis code, modifiers, and referral numbers.
    Process credit returns to wholesaler, prepare product for return and reconcile credit invoices.
    Accurately inventories, orders and stocks assigned areas daily prior to end of shift.
    Create daily orders of medications and supplies from wholesaler and transmit each morning and evening.
    Place orders for medications directly from manufacturers and fill out Purchase Order appropriately.
    Verify accuracy of order received from wholesaler, sticker appropriately, sign and date invoice.
    Maintains Drug Representative sign in log sheet.
  • Prescription processing
    Adheres to all legal and pharmacy procedures, including pharmacist check of all work prior to dispensing.
    Understands and maintains knowledge of contracted third party formularies and plan limitations.
    Prioritizes new prescriptions and refills and processes them into the computer.
    Accurately interprets prescriptions, selects proper medications, counts or measures proper quantities, places drugs in appropriate container(s), affixes required and appropriate prescription label and auxiliary labels. Annotates manufacturer, expiration date, and filler initials on the prescription indicating that prescriptions are completed and ready to be checked by pharmacist.
    Prepares appropriate information for prescription transfer for pharmacist, e.g. input transfer information into computer, obtains hard copy, etc.
    Demonstrates understanding of metric and apothecary systems of weights and measures, pharmaceutical calculations, trade and generic names, dosages and indications.
    Selects, assembles and compounds all ingredients in the required amounts according to master formulas and special requests. Demonstrate appropriate computational ability. Proficient understanding of measuring systems and devices, aseptic technique, pharmacy procedures and necessary equipment.
    Checks in-box and fax machine for physician or patient correspondence and assures prescriptions are completed in a timely manner.
    Follows up with patient, physician and/or insurance company regarding prescription issues including, but not limited to, refills, refill too soon, and Prior Authorization Requests (PAR).
    Notifies pharmacist of computer warnings, drug allergies, duplicate therapies, etc.
    Refers all patient medication concerns, new prescriptions and consultations to a Registered Pharmacist.
    Assures that all tasks are accomplished during shift.
    Documents refill authorizations from physician office according to system standards.
  • Typing skills
    Using a keyboard, required to type proficiently and accurately.
    Ability to type a minimum of 30 words per minute with 0-2 errors.
    Ability to proof work.
