$26.130 - $32.670 - $36.590

What You Will Do
The Wholesale Pharmacy Technician assists the Pharmacy Director and the Pharmacy Purchasing Supervisor within the wholesale pharmacy, antigen lab and other areas as needed. This role will be responsible for checking in daily orders and medication from suppliers, as well as ensuring the safe storage of the medications.

Under the supervision of the Pharmacy Purchasing Supervisor provides technical knowledge, skill and expertise required for the provision of comprehensive pharmaceutical care that supports the mission, values and philosophy of Pharmacy Services and Sharp HealthCare.


Required Qualifications

  • H.S. Diploma or Equivalent
  • 1 Year experience in a hospital and/or retail pharmacy environment.
  • California Pharmacy Technician License (TCH) - CA State Board of Pharmacy -REQUIRED


Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board -PREFERRED


Essential Functions

  • Inventory/Storage
    Assure accurate ordering, receipt, and storage of medications coming into the department.
    Manage the seasonal vaccines, including receiving, organizing, storage, inventory, etc. per manufacturer requirements.
    Monitor and maintain adequate inventory of medications utilizing PAR/AMU levels, supply shortages, etc.
    Assists in reducing wastage and spoilage by rotating stock, using short- dated items first, etc.
    Follow requirements of Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA).
    Daily review of Teletracking portal for medication refrigerators and freezers for all SRS departments to ensure they are online. Follow up with Supervisor, Facilities or department as appropriate.
    In event of a temperature excursion for medications, outreach to manufacturers to determine viability of medications and provide information and recommendation to the affected department.
    Daily documentation of refrigerators, freezers temperatures and room temperatures and humidity.
    Assists with weekly billing reports as directed by pharmacy purchasing supervisor.
  • Distribution
    Manages department orders from the Central Buyer Online Requisition ordering website.
    Prepare and prioritize medications for delivery to SRS departments utilizing internal SRS Courier or approved outside couriers.
    Monitor and maintain adequate department supplies (i.e., paper bags, tape, labels, coolers, ice packs etc.)
    Process medication returns from SRS departments. Return to inventory, segregate to reverse distributor or place in pharmaceutical waste bin.
    If eligible process for department credit.
  • Communication
    Assure incoming phone calls are answered promptly and triages phone calls appropriately.
    Maintains communication with SRS departments as appropriate for clarification needs, and updates on shortages, delays, etc.
    Keeps Supervisor updated and abreast of any issues, shortages, delays, pricing changes, etc.
  • Quality
    Troubleshoots and resolves issues in a timely manner.
    Assures all documentation and records are accurate, complete, and maintained, including packing slips, invoices, etc.
    Review Teletracking portal for medication refrigerator/freezer for all SRS departments and follow up as appropriate.
    Manufacturer outreach and provide information back to the department when medications experience temperature excursions.
    Medication and pharmacy supply storage locations are maintained, neat, clean, organized, and labeled.
    Maintains working environment within guidelines, temperature, cleanliness, etc.
    Searches, removes and segregates outdated and unusable medications. Prepares for pick up by Reverse Distributor
    Proactively identifies potential medication safety improvement opportunities such as look-alike/sound-alike (LASA) with medication storage and packaging issues, delivery storage/security related issues, inventory management issues etc.
  • Central Buyer Support
    Manages SRS Clinic users (creating login information, removes users no longer in the system, locked out, etc.)
    Provides training on how to use/navigate the Central Buyer system.
    Maintains Medication Requisition Lists and Physician lists.
  • Pyxis Support
    Responsible for filling GI Pyxis. Traveling and working with nursing teams at the sites.
  • Antigen Support
    Complete Antigen Lab duties/tasks. Collaborate with nursing teams and physicians within in the allergy department.
    Follow all USP 797 Standards/Requirements as outlined in the Department Guidelines.
  • Regulatory
    Adheres to all legal and pharmacy procedures as directed by the California Board of Pharmacy.
    Brings critical issues to the attention of management.
    Ensures security of medication storage at all times.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of state and national pharmacy regulatory requirements and pertinent accreditation standards.
  • An understanding of Information Technology software is highly desirable, especially in the application of word processing, spreadsheet and database creation and management.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with pharmacies, suppliers, providers, and clinic staff.
