$53.570 - $69.120 - $77.410

What You Will Do
The Program Coordinator for Bariatric Surgery supports the operational, regulatory, and patient‑navigation functions of the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Program. This role works in collaboration with the Bariatric Surgery Director and interdisciplinary team to coordinate program workflows, accreditation activities, patient progression, and quality initiatives across the continuum of bariatric care. The Bariatric Program Coordinator facilitates communication, education coordination, and compliance monitoring to support safe, effective, and patient‑centered bariatric services.


Required Qualifications

  • 2 Years clinical experience in bariatric surgery, metabolic health, or complex surgical cases.
  • California Registered Nurse (RN) - CA Board of Registered Nursing -REQUIRED
  • AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) - American Heart Association -REQUIRED


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a healthcare related field.
  • experience in a healthcare coordination, program management, or clinical support role.
  • Experience supporting quality improvement, accreditation, or regulatory compliance activities.
  • Certified Bariatric Nurse (CBN) - American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery -PREFERRED


Essential Functions

  • Program Operations and Coordination
    Coordinate day‑to‑day operational activities of the bariatric surgery program in collaboration with the Bariatric Surgery Director and interdisciplinary team.
    Serve as a central liaison among bariatric surgery, clinical nutrition, nursing, behavioral health, administrative staff, and external partners to ensure coordinated program workflows.
    Anticipate operational program needs and support implementation of process improvements aligned with evidence‑based standards and organizational goals. This includes system initiatives related to bariatrics.
    Maintain program policies, pathways, and procedures in collaboration with program leadership across Sharp.
  • Accreditation, Compliance and Quality
    Support program compliance with bariatric accreditation standards and applicable state and federal regulations. These include The Joint Commission, MBSAQIP standards, regulatory standards, etc.
    Coordinate accreditation readiness activities, including documentation organization, policy maintenance, data validation support, and audit preparation.
    Serve as a resource to staff regarding bariatric program standards, workflows, and regulatory expectations.
    Support quality improvement initiatives related to patient safety, outcomes monitoring, and care coordination.
    Identify patient safety risks and participate in strategies to reduce harm and improve program performance.
  • Patient Navigation and Program Education
    Coordinate patient progression through bariatric program requirements from referral through post‑operative follow‑up.
    Reinforce program expectations, care pathways, and post‑surgical follow‑up requirements as provided by clinical team members.
    Coordinate bariatric education classes, orientations, and support groups in collaboration with registered dietitians, behavioral health providers, and medical staff.
    Direct patient‑specific clinical questions related to nutrition, medical clearance, or treatment planning to the appropriate licensed provider.
  • Data, Documentation and Reporting
    Coordinate data collection and validation processes to ensure accuracy and alignment with patient medical records and program requirements.
    Maintain knowledge of documentation standards, electronic medical record workflows, and bariatric program tracking systems.
    Support preparation of internal and external reports related to program outcomes and accreditation activities.
  • Education and Professional Collaboration
    Coordinate orientation and ongoing education for bariatric program staff, students, and community partners as appropriate.
    Support development and maintenance of patient education materials in collaboration with providers.
    Participate in committees, task forces, and workgroups related to bariatric services, quality improvement, and patient safety.
    Demonstrate accountability for professional practice, continued learning, and role‑specific competency.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Familiarity with bariatric care pathways and multidisciplinary program models.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate complex processes and work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and regulatory compliance.
