Hourly Pay Range (Minimum - Midpoint - Maximum):

$22.351 - $27.939 - $33.527


The stated pay scale reflects the range that Sharp reasonably expects to pay for this position.  The actual pay rate and pay grade for this position will be dependent on a variety of factors, including an applicant’s years of experience, unique skills and abilities, education, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, other requirements for the position, and employer business practices.



What You Will Do
Assists in all departmental functions to include, but not limited to: Coordinating surgery, obtain all necessary referrals, ensures that all necessary medical records, labs and radiology results and films are available for the surgeon, also schedules all necessary preop tests and labs. Coordinates and maintains the Physician Assistant's daily clinical and general surgery schedules. Coordinates the scheduling of all hospital procedures. Serves as contact person for patients, physicians, surgeons, PAAES, UR, and financial services to ensure all established goals are met. Provides a high level of customer service in a manner consistent with SRS mission and goals.

Required Qualifications
  • H.S. Diploma or Equivalent
  • 3 Years medical office experience required with emphasis on procedure scheduling and financial screening and experience with coding surgeries.
  • Word processing and appointment scheduling experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in the relative department.
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) - California Certifying Board for Medical Assistants -PREFERRED
  • California Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) - CA Board of Vocational Nursing & Psychiatric Technicians -PREFERRED

Essential Functions
  • Account management
    Monitors all accounts to ensure financial eligibility criteria are met. Advises patient of responsibility. Serves as primary coder for department.
    Assures charge tickets for PA are coded correctly and turned in on a timely basis.
  • Clinic operations
    As a Key User, makes appropriate daily physician schedule changes.
    Schedules patients' clinical appointments following appropriate provider guidelines.
  • Coordinates and schedules procedures
    Follows through from scheduling through date of procedure to ensure the following:
    Coordinates date and time for hospital procedures between the patient, hospital, and the physician working directly with respective hospital departments.
    Patient is notified of admission date, and pre-operative ancillary studies and pre-operative appointments. All questions are answered and patient understands plan.
    Reviews all pre-operative instructions with patients until patient verbalizes understanding.
    Need for authorization is identified and documented.
    Referral authorization is obtained online for HMO patients.
    Pre-certifications or pre-authorizations are obtained for all non-HMO patients.
    Advised physician(s) and nurse(s) of schedule.
    Maintains the scheduling calendar daily ensuring that all cases are booked in computer.
    Reschedules patients as needed to accommodate schedules.
    Enters changes in IDX as necessary
    Orders all pre-operative tests and enters in OCM accordingly.
    Collects and organizes packets consisting of all pre-operative testing, recent notes, past procedures, and any other pertinent medical information relating to procedure scheduled and presented to physician.
  • Coordinates and schedules surgeries
    Follow through from scheduling through post-operative treatment to ensure the following:
    Maintains calendar and provides all clerical support for physician's assistant.
    Coordinates all off-site consultation appointments for patients being referred to surgery.
    Obtains necessary referrals for consultation appointments.
    Coordinates date and time for surgeries between the patient, hospital, and the physician working directly with the off-site surgeon's office. Orders all necessary pre-operative screening tests. Coordinates pre-anesthesia (PAAES) and pre-operative endeavors with surgeon's office.
    Scheduling with various departments is completed and supporting documents are sent to respective locations.
    Patient is notified of admission date, any pre-operative ancillary studies and pre-operative appointments. All questions are answered and patient understand plan.
    Coordinate pre-operative appointments with physician's assistant and PAAES.
    Need for authorization is identified and documented.
    Referral authorization is obtained online for HMO patients.
    Pre-certifications or pre-authorizations for all non-HMO patients are obtained.
    Advised physician(s) and nurse(s) of schedule.
    Organizes all previous tests/consultations and forwards to off-site surgeons.
    Maintains the scheduling calendar daily ensuring that all cases are booked in computer.
    Reschedules patients as needed to accommodate schedules.
    Enters changes in IDX as necessary.
    Enters OCM orders.
    Coordinates all post-operative appointments with Physician's Assistant ensuring all pertinent operative reports, labs, and radiological studies are available.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proficient with Medical Terminology required.
  • Demonstrated computer skills including database management.
