$115.620 - $149.190 - $182.760The stated pay scale reflects the range that Sharp reasonably expects to pay for this position. The actual pay rate and pay grade for this position will be dependent on a variety of factors, including an applicant’s years of experience, unique skills and abilities, education, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, other requirements for the position, and employer business practices.
What You Will Do
The Vice President, Chief Applications Officer (CAO) is responsible for working closely with the SVP and Chief Information Digital Officer (CIDO), the Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO), and senior information clinical, business, and technology leadership in providing comprehensive application oversight to advance the vision and strategic initiatives for Sharp HealthCare. The VP, CAO provides day‑to‑day oversight, directing and managing all application initiatives for IS, including the optimization of Epic (primary EMR), including deployment of new Epic features or modules, and oversight and advancement of the enterprise Workday ERP platform. The VP, CAO provides leadership in the deployment of other key strategic initiatives and partners closely with senior operational leadership for affiliates to support system growth initiatives, shared‑services model evolution, and application rationalization. Reporting to the CIDO, the VP, CAO leads a large team and manages both an operational and capital budget. As a member of the IS senior leadership team, the VP, CAO contributes to the overall IT strategic direction for Sharp HealthCare.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree Business Administration, Information Technology, or related field
- 10 Years of progressive application leadership experience in a complex health system or academic medical center; strong experience supporting Epic environments.
- 5 Years of experience implementing and supporting clinical systems such as CPOE, Clinical Documentation, Decision Support, Revenue Cycle, and ancillary systems.
- 5 Years of technical experience supporting and managing enterprise systems in complex environments.
- 5 Years of senior management responsibility for large‑scale, multi‑team project oversight and enterprise system deployment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree Business Administration, Information Technology, Healthcare Administration, or related field
Other Qualification Requirements
- Epic and/or Workday certifications - Preferred
Essential Functions
- Oversight
Works collaboratively and maintains effective relationships with senior leadership, physician leadership, department managers, and staff across Sharp HealthCare.
Provides enterprise application systems vision and leadership for developing and implementing system‑wide information technology initiatives and contributes to Sharp HealthCare's strategic plan.
Ensures effective integration of healthcare operations and IT systems, particularly during acquisitions, affiliations, and expansions.
Continues the development, maintenance, support, enhancement, and optimization of assigned financial, clinical, and operational applications.
Oversight of all Health Care Delivery Applications, including new implementations and roadmap development.
Ensure application business continuity planning, support structures, and downtime preparedness.
Drive EHR interoperability initiatives across platforms and affiliates.
Partner closely with Architecture and Solutions teams to align application strategies with enterprise architecture.
Standardize tools, processes, and methodologies across the applications portfolio. - General Leadership and Operations
Maintains effective business relationships and negotiates advantageous agreements with vendors and service providers.
Monitors performance of initiatives including budgets, timelines, and key outcomes.
Performs ongoing assessment of team capabilities to ensure support of business needs.
Identifies, evaluates, and recommends emerging technologies and application platforms to advance Sharp HealthCare’s operational and clinical objectives.
Ensures staff development, training, mentorship, and career progression structures are in place to develop a high‑performing applications organization.
Leads by example through participation, technical guidance, and oversight of mission‑critical projects.
Identifies and selects the appropriate hardware, software, and platforms to support enterprise requirements.
Ensures quality standards and service levels consistent with IS division standards.
Ensures major technology initiatives are synchronized with Sharp HealthCare’s organizational priorities.
Plans, leads, and directs work of staff to ensure goals and objectives are met within budget and timelines. - Teamwork and Customer Relationships
Collaborates effectively to problem‑solve and achieve organizational goals.
Establishes strong cross‑functional working relationships.
Cultivates and strengthens customer and stakeholder relationships. - Enterprise EMR and ERP Leadership
Provides overall leadership and accountability for Sharp HealthCare’s core enterprise platforms, including Epic (primary EMR) and Workday (primary ERP for Finance, Supply Chain, HR, Payroll, Timekeeping).
Oversees the full lifecycle of Epic and Workday modules—from planning and implementation to optimization, upgrades, enhancements, and workflow redesign—to ensure system reliability, efficiency, and alignment with organizational needs.
Partners with clinical, financial, HR, supply chain, and operational leaders to ensure Epic and Workday are leveraged to drive standardization, reduce redundancy, strengthen compliance, and enhance system usability.
Leads governance for major Epic and Workday initiatives, including new module deployment, integration, data migration, regulatory updates, workflow modernization, and cross‑platform interoperability.
Ensures robust data governance, reporting, analytics enablement, and data quality across Epic and Workday.
Develops a forward‑looking roadmap for Epic and Workday to support digital transformation, automation, scalability, performance, and enterprise growth.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of healthcare applications, Epic, Workday, and modern enterprise technology stacks.
- Ability to lead complex system implementations, manage teams, and govern enterprise initiatives.
- Excellent communication skills with ability to present technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
- Strong negotiation, vendor‑management, and relationship‑building skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and lead multiple initiatives concurrently.
