Hourly Pay Range (Minimum - Midpoint - Maximum):

$27.280 - $34.100 - $40.920

What You Will Do
This position is responsible for a variety of administrative and clerical functions that ensure the day-to-day operations of Decedent Affairs for the System. Responsible for determining appropriate procedures and methods to be used within established policies and legal regulations. Responsible for death registration, education, and provides supportive services to staff, patients, and families surrounding those events.

Required Qualifications

  • H.S. Diploma or Equivalent


Preferred Qualifications

  • Other : Some college.


Other Qualification Requirements

  • Will need to attend the County/state death registration class.


Essential Functions

  • Customer service
    Communicates with patients, family members, staff, visitors, and the community clearly, appropriately, and keeps them informed.
    Provide support to families/friends at time of death.
  • Death paperwork
    Verify death paperwork is completed per procedure.
    Verify correct information is on paperwork.
    Assist staff as necessary to complete paperwork timely.
  • Death registration and certificates
    Register all deaths with the County/State.
    Processes death certificates according to Medical Center, County Vital Record, and State guidelines. for all Sharp Acute Care hospital sites.
    Monitor and coordinate with mortuary in regards to discharged remains and family inquires.
    Contact decedent's family/agents for documentation purposes as needed.
    Contacts public Administrator and/or Medical Examiner as needed to assist staff when issues arise.
    Attend Decedent Affairs meetings and in-services at the County Vital Records dept as necessary.
  • Department policies and procedures
    Keeps updated with regulation changes and updates policy with the same.
    Review, revise, and update all decedent affairs Policy and procedure a minimal of every 2 years.
  • Morgue
    Ensure through the staff that the patient has appropriate Identification band on.
    Identifies that all deceased patient are accounted for daily with assistance from the Administrative Liaison.
  • Organ, tissue and eye donation
    Review statistics from the organizations and takes action to improve areas falling below regulatory requirements.
    Ensures notification to OPO is imminent to meet time frame of one hour.
    Assist agencies with time, space, and follow thru for all donations.
  • Reports and statistics
    Maintain Decedent Affairs logs.
    Provide reports as requested.
    Create Statistics as requested.
    Monitors statistics from OPO to work toward and maintaining regulatory recommended rates.
  • Training and education
    Provide annual education classes for each entity.
    Assist with unit or 1:1 in-services as needed or thru AL.
    Ensures that staff have knowledge of regulatory changes, recent statistics and provides improvement training for those who fall below regulation- working with AL.
    Attend seminars/classes/in-services to keep updated.
    Work with managers/leads by reporting areas doing well and areas needing improvement. Keeps managers informed on issues.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Knowledge of death registration/certification preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to meet with grieving families.
