NoHourly Pay Range (Minimum - Midpoint - Maximum):
$56.580 - $70.170 - $83.760The stated pay scale reflects the range as defined by the collective bargaining agreement between Sharp HealthCare and Sharp Professional Nurses Network, United Nurses Associations of California/Union of Health Care Professionals, NUHHCE, AFSME, AFL-CIO. Placement within the range is based on years of RN experience.
Required Qualifications
- Must be a graduate of a U.S. state-approved and accredited nursing program.
- Must have a current unencumbered California RN license by the program start date.
- Must have graduated no more than 18 months prior to the start date of the Nurse Residency program
- Graduation date no earlier than September 2024
- Must have less than 12 months of RN work experience on the start date of the Nurse Residency Program.
- Must have a current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification for a healthcare provider by program start date.
- Note: If required by the specific unit, additional certifications including AHA ACLS, NIHSS, PALS, NRP, or others, must be completed by the program start date.

Important New Grad Application Instructions:
Review each clinical area/program requirement prior to beginning the application process. During the application process, you will be asked to select a preferred unit/program of interest and an alternate. The units that will be accepting New Grads for the summer cohort are listed below. Prior to submitting your application, please verify the accuracy of all information entered.

Sharp Coronado Hospital
Accreditations/Designations: Planetree, Center of Excellence Total Knee Replacement and Total Hip Replacement, Bariatric Surgery Accreditation (MBSAQIP), PTAP

Sharp Coronado Hospital Acute and Progressive Care Unit
Purpose of Unit: Provides care for a diverse patient population including those needing both medical and surgical care. As an accredited hospital for both orthopedic and bariatric surgery, the Acute and Progressive Care Unit delivers personalized care for patients post-operatively, while also specializing in the care of patients with medical diagnoses
Top 5 Diagnoses: Pneumonia, heart failure, sepsis, total knee and hip replacement, sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass

Purpose of Unit: Provides care for patients requiring less than two midnights in the hospital. The unit has approximately 25-30% short stay patients and the rest is overflow PCU patients
Top 5 Diagnoses: Chest pain, post-procedural (cath lab), withdrawals, AMS, abdominal pain

Sharp Chula Vista Neuro - Stroke PCU 4T
Purpose of Unit: Provides care for patients with stroke and other neurological disorders
Top 5 Diagnoses: stroke (ischemic and hemorrhagic), TIAs, ALOC, chest pain, chronic renal, cardiomyopathy
Number of Beds: 32
Sharp Chula Vista Heart Failure PCU 5E
Purpose of Unit: Focuses on heart failure but can also care for a wide variety of cardiac patients who need continuous cardiac monitoring
Top 5 Diagnoses: Myocardial infarction (chest pain, unstable angina) cath lab, angioplasty, hypertension, diabetes and renal failure
Number of Beds: 44
Sharp Chula Vista Emergency Department
Additional Required Certifications: AHA ACLS, PALS, NIHSS
Purpose of Unit: Provides care for pediatrics to geriatrics in emergent or urgent situations
Top 5 Diagnoses: Abdominal pain, cardiac pain, shortness of breath, muscular skeletal pain, fever

Sharp Chula Vista ICU Step-Down

Purpose of Unit: Care of the critically ill patients medically and surgically

Sharp Grossmont Hospital Innovations PCU 2N/2S/1S
Purpose of Unit: 2N is a semi-private unit with overflow progressive care patients. We see a variety of diagnoses. We are the innovations unit with outside the box thinking. 2S/1S are ICU Step-Down units serving higher acuity patients. Types of patients can include but not limited to sepsis chronic respiratory failure. Mechanical ventilation titratable drips etc
Top 5 Diagnoses: chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pneumonia, coronary artery disease, gastrointestinal diseases respiratory failure, sepsis
Number of Beds: 37
Sharp Grossmont Hospital Oncology PCU 2E
Additional Preferred Certifications: PCCN, OCN, CMSRN, Med-surg-BC
Purpose of Unit: Progressive Care Unit that specializes in Oncology, Palliative Care, End of Life, Advanced Illness Management, and geriatric care (NICHE).
Top 5 Diagnoses: PNA, DM, UTI, different CA dx, sepsis, and other wide range of diagnoses
Number of Beds: 37
Sharp Grossmont Hospital Pulmonary/CHF Telemetry/PCU 4E
Additional Preferred Qualifications: PCCN
Purpose of Unit: Provides care for telemetry patients, primarily specializing in pulmonary failure, congestive heart failure, and renal failure
Top 5 Diagnoses: Heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pneumonia, renal failure, coronary artery disease

Sharp Grossmont Hospital Neuroscience PCU 5E
Additional Required Certifications: NIHSS
Additional Preferred Qualifications: SCRN or PCCN
Purpose of Unit: Sharp Grossmont is the only Joint Commission Comprehensive Stroke Center in East County and in the Sharp Health System. This unit is the designated neuro/stroke progressive care unit
Top 5 Diagnoses: CVA, TIA, peripheral vascular disease, hypertensive urgency, diabetes mellitus

Sharp Grossmont Hospital Emergency Department
Additional Required Certifications: AHA ACLS, PALS, NIHSS
Additional Preferred Qualifications: Acute care hospital experience such as LVN, Healthcare Partner/Assistant/Tech, Nursing Assistant, EMT, or Corpsman; CEN
Purpose of Unit: Provides 24-hour emergency services
Top 5 Diagnoses: Any condition from neonate through end of life
Number of Beds: 72
Sharp Grossmont Hospital Labor and Delivery (only available to current internal employees)
Additional Required Qualifications: Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
Additional Preferred Qualifications: Experience in a similar setting, such as LVN, Healthcare Partner/Assistant/Tech, etc.
Purpose of Unit: Provide 24-hour care to pregnant individuals during the antepartum, intrapartum and immediate postpartum period
Top 5 Diagnoses: Intrauterine pregnancy, preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, pyelonephritis, preterm labor
