$25.310 - $31.640 - $37.970The stated pay scale reflects the range that Sharp reasonably expects to pay for this position. The actual pay rate and pay grade for this position will be dependent on a variety of factors, including an applicant’s years of experience, unique skills and abilities, education, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, other requirements for the position, and employer business practices.
What You Will Do
To assist the pharmacists to ensure timely delivery for medications dispensed as part of the Sharp HealthCare Discharge Capture Program through the Emergency Department and Hospital; including all functions associated with the delivery of pharmacy services.
Required Qualifications
- 3 Years Experience as a pharmacy technician.
- California Pharmacy Technician License (TCH) - CA State Board of Pharmacy -REQUIRED
Preferred Qualifications
- H.S. Diploma or Equivalent
- 1 Year In a hospital and/or retail pharmacy environment.
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board -PREFERRED

Works cooperatively with others and organizes daily workflow to optimize output.

Prioritizing tasks to complete critical patient care duties first.
Reducing non-essential interruptions to deliver optimal patient care, deliver medications timely, and maximize productivity.
Working independently, taking initiative to assess and meet workload demands, and ensure all tasks are completed relative to medication delivery and PBM insurance billing.
Discussing progress and concerns related to job duties with a pharmacist to ensure that consistent services are provided on time, every time. - Department Efficiency and Effectiveness
Assures smooth operation of the pharmacy by completing necessary tasks accurately and within designated time frames.
Properly and efficiently identifies and enters all patients into pharmacy system that will utilize pharmacy service of medication delivery to bedside. Accurately gathering patient’s demographics, insurance information, and drug allergies.
Investigating discrepancies in the medication histories and other problems and following up with pharmacists to facilitate resolution of the problems.
Communicating with customers (e.g., patients, caregivers, family members, physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and others) to obtain and communicate accurate information, resolve problems and meet customer needs. Also communicates any delays in the prescription process to the patient in a timely manner. Always asking patient for 2 identifiers prior to distributing medications.
Utilizing telephone skills and etiquette to obtain and provide information when needed, and assure that all phone calls are answered within 3 rings.
Communicating progress, needs and concerns to pharmacists, co-workers or a coordinator to facilitate problem-solving and follow-up to ensure customer satisfaction.
Care coordination with inpatient and emergency department staff to assist with patient discharges.
Process any and all necessary reports prior to the end of shift.
Reconcile any money or credit card charges at the end of shift. - Department Quality Control
Quality control and inventory procedures are completed daily by accurately inventorying and restocking assigned areas.
Maintains neat and organized work areas.
Removes outdated medications and returns unused medications to the wholesaler.
Receive and properly label incoming orders of medications and supplies from suppliers in a timely manner. - Pharmacy Operations
Assures smooth operations of prescription discharge program by accurately and efficiently process and filling prescriptions under direct supervision of a pharmacist.
Adheres to all legal and pharmacy procedures, including pharmacist check of all work prior to dispensing.
Assists the pharmacist in advanced tasks associated with patient care.
Appropriately prioritize and provide timely medication delivery in coordination with discharge planning, social work, and nursing to ensure an exceptional pharmacy experience.
Accurately interprets prescriptions, selects proper medications, counts, measures or pours appropriate quantities, places medications in appropriate containers, affixes required prescription and auxiliary labels to be checked by the pharmacist.
Selects, assembles and compounds all ingredients in the required amounts according to master formulas and special requests.
Demonstrates understanding of metric and apothecary systems of weights and measure, and pharmaceutical calculations.
Problem solves operational issues within the department and organization related to the medication use process.
Collects patient co-payments and out-of-pocket costs when necessary.
Understands and maintains knowledge of contracted third party formularies, plan limitations and appropriate billing. Provides prior authorization support, ensuring any medication that requires a prior authorization is followed up on timely.
Provides billing and coding assistance to ensure appropriate insurance company (PBM) reimbursement, as needed.
Assists in education and training of staff and other trainees.
