Hourly Pay Range (Minimum - Midpoint - Maximum):

$56.580 - $70.170 - $83.760


The stated pay scale reflects the range as defined by the collective bargaining agreement between Sharp HealthCare and Sharp Professional Nurses Network, United Nurses Associations of California/Union of Health Care Professionals, NUHHCE, AFSME, AFL-CIO.  Placement within the range is based on years of RN experience.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be a graduate of a U.S. state-approved and accredited nursing program.

  • Must have a current unencumbered California RN license by the program start date.

  • Must have graduated no more than 18 months prior to the start date of the Nurse Residency program

  • Graduation date no earlier than March 2024

  • Must have less than 12 months of RN work experience on the start date of the Nurse Residency Program.

  • Must have a current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification for a healthcare provider by program start date.

  • Note: If required by the specific unit, additional certifications including AHA ACLS, NIHSS, PALS, NRP, or others, must be completed by the program start date.

  • Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing

Applications for our Summer 2025 New Graduate Nurse Residency Program will be accepted on the following dates:

Internal candidates: Tuesday, May 20th, 2025 - Friday, May 30th, 2025 (12pm noon - 12pm noon)

External candidates: Tuesday, May 27th, 2025 - Friday, May 30th, 2025 (12pm noon - 12pm noon)

Offers will be extended: July/August 2025

Important New Grad Application Instructions:

Review each clinical area/program requirement prior to beginning the application process. During the application process, you will be asked to select a preferred unit/program of interest and an alternate. The units that will be accepting New Grads for the summer cohort are listed below. Prior to submitting your application, please verify the accuracy of all information entered.

Accreditations/Designations: Magnet, PTAP, Joint Commission Center of Excellence for Total Joint Replacements

Sharp Memorial Hospital Oncology Acute Care 1W

Additional Preferred Qualifications: OCN, chemo/bio provider by ONS

Purpose of Unit: Provides care to oncology patients at all points of their journey - from diagnosis, treatment, symptom management, and palliative care services

Top 5 Diagnoses: Leukemia/lymphoma, colon, gallbladder, pancreatic

Number of Beds: 30

Sharp Memorial Hospital Medical Acute Care 5N

Additional Preferred Qualifications: CMSRN, Med-Surg BC

Purpose of Unit: Specializes in acute care medical-surgical population

Top 5 Diagnoses: Renal (especially continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis and readmitted long-term kidney transplant patients), diabetes, cardiac monitoring, respiratory support

Number of Beds: 31

Sharp Memorial Hospital Cardiac Surgical PCU 6W

Additional Preferred Qualifications: PCCN

Purpose of Unit: Cares for patients that undergo a wide range of general and cardiothoracic surgeries and procedures

Top 5 Diagnoses: Coronary artery/valve disease, acute myocardial infarctions, arrhythmic disorders, peripheral vascular disease

Number of Beds: 32

Sharp Memorial Hospital Physical Acute Care Rehabilitation Unit

Additional Preferred Qualifications: CRRN

Purpose of Unit: Rehabilitation is a place of new beginnings. Our focus is not on cure, instead, we look forward with hope to future healing and accept the adaptation that must occur in the here and now. Our goal is to help our patients improve their current quality of life and foster independence. We get to develop rapport with our patients due to the longer length of stay they enjoy here

Top 5 Diagnoses: SCI, TBI, CVA, transplant, oncology, multi-trauma

Sharp Mesa Vista - Behavioral Health Hospital

Preferred Qualifications: BSN; Bilingual English/Spanish

Note: all units work 8-hour shifts, unless otherwise indicated

Sharp Mesa Vista – Behavioral Health Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

  • Purpose (of unit):  Our ICU is a space where patients experiencing mood instability, suicidal thoughts, urges to harm themselves, and/or hallucinations receive treatment. Here, patients the highest level of care, and safety is our first priority. In this locked unit, our mission is to create a safe harbor by fostering hope, healing, and independence by teaching recovery principles.  Patients have the opportunity to attended and participate in group and individual therapeutic activities in a safe environment with support from peers and staff.
  • Top 5 Diagnoses:  Acute Psychosis, Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder, Status Post Suicide Attempt, Major Depressive Disorder
  • Point of Entry: Patients are directly admitted either voluntarily or on an involuntary legal hold.They come from across San Diego County as walk in patients, through doctor’s offices/clinics, emergency departments, PERT, and medical floors after stabilization of medical needs.
  • Average Daily Census: Up to 28 in our new unit (22 in our temporary unit).

Sharp Mesa Vista Hospital – Intensive Treatment Program (ITP/EW1)

  • Purpose (of unit):East Wing 1 (EW1), also known as the “Intensive Treatment Program” (ITP) is a locked unit where patients experiencing mood instability, suicidal thoughts, urges to harm themselves, and/or hallucinations, have the opportunity to attend and participate in milieu, group, and individual therapy in a safe environment with support from peers and staff. Groups are offered throughout the day, including psychology, recreational, art, pet, spirituality, and social interaction therapy aimed at helping patients learn positive coping skills and resiliency.
  • Top 5 Diagnoses:Acute Psychosis, Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder, Status Post Suicide Attempt, Major Depressive Disorder
  • Average Daily Census: Up to 25

Sharp Mesa Vista Hospital – Adult Locked Unit - South Rotunda (SR)

  • Purpose (of unit):  Our South Rotunda (SR) is a locked unit, which provides care for a small number of patients at one time, allowing for focused and personalized interaction. Nurses are present 24 hours a day and staff members round continuously with patients to ensure safety for everyone. We offer daily therapy groups that incorporate themes from our hospital-wide Recovery Action Plan workbook, including psychology, recreational therapy, medication education and nutrition. We strongly encourage group participation to facilitate a successful recovery.

  • Independently performs the nursing process through individualized assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of safe, therapeutic, efficient care for patients with overt and subtle needs throughout the continuum of care, and according to unit's standards of care. Performs safe nursing care for patients in more complex situations with some assistance and supervision. Demonstrates competency in all areas of the unit skills and some advanced skills. May teach some skills competencies. Coordinates patient care administered by other members of the care team. May assume the responsibility of relief charge nurse and may assist with preceptorship/professional development of new nurses and students. Uses common equipment and medications safely in the practice setting and consults others when unfamiliar. Recognizes inconsistencies in patient care and manages potential complications. Demonstrates consistent organization and prioritization of workload; confident management of emergency situations. Participates in quality improvement initiatives.
